Avoiding Confrontation

Morning Mantra: "If you avoid conflict to keep the peace, you've started a war with yourself."  As hard as it is, and believe me I KNOW it's hard, but you must speak your truth.  As difficult as confrontation is, you must not swallow your feelings to avoid it. Avoiding conflict IS conflict. The trick is to learn HOW to say your truth so it will be heard and received. How to confront without causing a defensive reaction. Healthy adults talk about their problems and look for solutions.  When people hurt them, they communicate with compassion, directly and tactfully. You cannot change what you refuse to confront. Create a Meaningful Life

Morning Mantra: "You don't end up with a meaningful life, you create one."    Life is not something that HAS meaning, it's something we GIVE meaning to. Who Wants Resentment in Their Heart?

Morning Mantra: "Expectations are disappointments waiting to happen." When we expect people to act or say things the way we would we set ourselves up for disappointments. Rarely do they do what we expect them to, and frankly, it is not their job to please us.  Everyone is working their own way home to their best self, and most people's paths are winding. The only thing you can control about other people's behavior is how you react to it. When you think people should do things a certain way (your way), you are creating premeditated resentments.  And who wants to live with resentment in their heart? Maybe we can try to accept people the way they are.  Maybe we can focus our energy on being OUR best self and hope that we set an example of how to be a decent, loving, caring, ethical, respectful, honest, compassionate and kind human. A Good Friend

Morning Mantra: "Life is short.  Spend it with friends who make you laugh and feel loved."
