A viral video of Leong popped up on my Tiktok FYP, where he says that his goal is for his kids to have an awesome life and that does not necessarily mean that he has to be an awesome dad for them to achieve that. He touches on how he believes that the social media landscape today concerns him and how we can help to shape it into something different for the future generation, to be a positive place where likeminded people can connect with each other and support one another. After watching that video, I knew I had to get Leong as a guest on my podcast. On this episode, we speak about the variety of career paths Leong has navigated through over the course of his life so far, the importance of human interaction, not forgetting your roots when chasing a goal, the importance of experimentation when young, the role of failure in personal growth, the pressures of academic performance, lifespan education, finding enjoyment in your work as well as many other topics. Guy is a Well-being and Alcohol Behavioural Coach with a profound expertise in the areas of mental health, wellbeing, and addiction. In today’s conversation, Guy opens up on his battle with alcohol abuse and how it negatively impacted his life, battling social anxiety, social norms in regards to consuming alcohol, long term effects of excessive alcohol consumption, how to navigate conversations with loved ones who drink copious amounts of alcohol, the importance of supportive friends as well as the aspiration to change as a person. Guy provides so many golden nuggets that you can apply to help improve your mental health as well as offers some food for thought in regards to your relationship with alcohol. This is definitely not a conversation where we are “demonising alcohol” but more so to get you, the listeners thinking, what is your relationship with it. The long awaited Part 2 with one of my best mates Kieren Devisser has now arrived! What an episode we have in store for you. Kieren and I moved out together at the start of 2024 where we embarked to start our own social media marketing agency. A lot of speed bumps have been experienced over the last 6 months, but Kieren had an unwavering itch that he needed to scratch. For the month of July, Kieren will be running from Melbourne to Brisbane covering up to 2000km in 31 days. He has to run an average of 64km per day, some days running even 90km! He is doing all this to raise money for pancreatic cancer research as part of the Viridian foundation. On today's episode, we discuss with Kieren why he decided to tackle such an enormous feat, how he has prepared to take on this journey as well as the incredibly important role that faith has played in this. Be sure to donate to the Viridian foundation via the link below and follow Kieren on all socials at @kierendevisser to follow his journey! Thank you so much for tuning in. This is a sentimental podcast for me and one that definitely brought up all sorts of emotions. Episode 23 is with Sarina Katsambanis who is a long time family friend. I grew up playing soccer with her son Terry and from then on, our families have become incredible friends. Over the last couple of years, life has thrown some big curve balls onto Sarina and her family. In February 2023, Peter Katsambanis (Sarina’s husband) sadly passed away after a long term battle with cancer. In the same year, Sarina’s ovarian cancer came back and she was determined to do whatever it took to make it to 2024. Thankfully for all of us, she did. Sarina sheds light of how cancer has affected her family, the grief of losing a life partner, the importance of family and friendships, lessons she wish she learnt in her 20s, what is truly valuable in life, her mindset shift as well as reflect on the countless memories she has had thus far. I hope this episode opens your eyes to what truly matters in life, makes you hug your loved ones a little tighter as well as hope you took away some valuable lessons away from this conversation.
