An unpretentious travelogue An unpretentious travelogue, which travels at a pace that draws the reader in without them even knowing . This is an enjoyable read, and as engaging as one would imagine a few hours with Jake Sansing might be. Completely lacking the urge to editorialize, or try to write as though he were looking to solve life's mysteries, the reader is brought along with him as he travels a winding path that takes him from the south, the west, and up to Alaska before heading home, and then out again. The reader follows Jake as he camps out in tight and odd places, accepts burgers from kind people who have followed his FB page (random acts of burgers), dodges bears, meets new people and followers, and waits for care packages. While readers are reminded that he walks to raise funds for charities, what matters more is the realization that Jake is one of the very few who has struck out, embraced the open road, and embodies the 'come what may' philosophy better than other writers who came before him could ever do. There is much to be admired about Jake Sansing's trek, but mostly --that he did it.

We describe a few of our experiences in each park but do not provide an exhaustive overview of each experience or park. We use these events as the vehicle to deliver insights about our relationship. We did not intend for this book to be a travel guide nor a recommendation for how to visit all 59 of the US National Parks, although many listeners have said they've found it to be a useful guide. Rather, it is our story about how we did it. Members Reviews: The guy can write but doesn't like me, the reader I've loved the few National Parks I've visited, so I looked forward to reading about Matt and Karen Smith's visits to those parks, and to learning what about other parks I would want to visit someday. I haven't finished the book yet, but some things about it bothered me enough to look up other readers' reviews to see if I was the only one who felt the way I do. I see that others agree with me. I was enjoying the book until I read enough of his put downs of geezers and old ladies and old lady perfume, etc to know that Matt doesn't like me. Matt wouldn't like me and I find that's affecting my enjoyment of the book. He doesn't like families with children when the children behave like children. The authors don't really respect the National Parks nor the rules that preserve the parks for all. Touching something (ex: the cane-like formations in the cave) that they've been told explicitly not to touch, smuggling alcohol in where it's not allowed, camping out with cooler and beer in the lobby of a beautiful icon of the National Park hotels: huh? The emphasis upon alcohol consumption and even getting drunk, was puzzling because it - and the childish behavior in hotels, restaurants, out in the parks - conflicted with the authors' claim that they are middle aged adults who have raised a family and are turning 50. It was difficult to get to know these people; their values seem in conflict with each other. Love of the features preserved in national parks, but disdain for the people who run and visit them, and for the rules necessary for the preservation of natural treasures. Who ever did the writing is a great writer with talent for humor and description. The humorous exchanges between the couple were, I thought, cute and sometimes caused me to chuckle aloud. But the pervasive disdain for humans in general, and especially senior citizens and young children turned me off. I kept reading beyond the point of finding the book somewhat repetitive, and rather annoying in the way that the couple began racing to parks just long enough to get the park stamp, take a quick hike, then mark that park "done" because I wanted to read about their experiences in two of my favorite parks: Acadia National Park in Maine and Badlands in South Dakota. What a huge disappointment! They raced to Acadia, spent a few hours there, never talked about specifics about what they saw, where they stayed, where they ate (and I, too, tired of the PB & J sandwiches and pizza descriptions).

I know they had been looking forward to this trip for a while and I am happy to have had this opportunity to feel like I shared in the adventure. The book is quite well written and is the first of Pete's that I've read. Pete's descriptions of actions and discussions match their personalities perfectly, and I could easily picture the entire trip as I read along. The book covers not only the travels of the two, but also Pete's internal struggles. I've known Pete and Brad to dwell upon faith and life-purpose more intensely than any other person I know. They are both entirely good people and I always hope they come out of each struggle with a good sense of that (even if I have played devils advocate more than once). I look forward to his future works and recommend this book to anyone. This book has it all, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Struggles, Hijinks, and more. Pete, I hope you bring us readers along with you on your upcoming trip to Iceland! Five Stars Great great author excellent An enjoyable read. Well written and entertaining, Peter Best is the best. ( Booklist) Members Reviews: Interesting journey As I am perhaps the 1st buyer on Audible of this book I suppose I have an obligation to inform others. The book is a travelogue coupled with some very nice monologues and some not so entertaining ones of the author who clearly writes really well for a 23 years old. Since it talks about Abu Dhabi it piqued my interest and the books did that justice. The authors wanderings are amusing and his thoughts honestly presented in the book. It wont come as a surprise that the author feels deeply and communicates well. The book is like listening to a friend (an emotional friend) about his journeys. Poignant and pointless.
