Balancing Life's Demands - How to Keep First Things First, Part 2

Setting priorities, putting first things first is important. The question is how do you keep those priorities in place? Chip explores the essential elements that must be in place in order for you to be able to keep your priorities in line over the long haul. The Problem: Many start well, but few finish well. The Answer: Biblical Accountability * Definition: Biblical Accountability is enlisting the support of those who love me to help me keep my commitments to God. * Its Power: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 The Need: Why accountability is essential for spiritual success Five Reasons: 1. Because we never outgrow the need for PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY. -1 Corinthians 9:34-27 2. Because past successes are no guarantee of FUTURE FAITHFULNESS. -1 Corinthians 10:1-5 3. Because we constantly underestimate the power of our own SINFUL PASSIONS. -1 Corinthians 10:6-11 4. Because we constantly overestimate our ability to handle TEMPTATION. -1 Corinthians 10:12 5. Because we naively believe our struggles and temptations are UNIQUE. -1 Corinthians 10:13 Summary: "Therefore, my beloved, flee from IDOLATRY!” -1 Corinthians 10:14 The Means: “How to” develop accountability in relationships: * It begins at HOME. * In an atmosphere of LOVE. * It must be voluntary and by PERMISSION. * It must be SPECIFIC, not generic. * It must be REGULAR, not sporadic. * No more than 4 PEOPLE. episode Why You Need a Small Group artwork
Why You Need a Small Group

Pastor and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer once wrote, “The Christian needs another Christian… for by himself he cannot help himself.” In this special program, Chip explains why godly, authentic community is the antidote for many Christians who feel lonely and disconnected from the Body of Christ. Hear why simply being a ‘consumer’ of a church is not enough and how forging meaningful bonds with fellow believers can transform your faith. * Stories Over Data: Chip emphasizes that stories resonate more deeply than facts, capturing hearts and imaginations. * Beyond Surface-Level Connection: Chip shares his personal journey of realizing the need for deeper relationships beyond a "perfect" church experience, highlighting the emptiness of being "relationally high and dry." * The Power of Participation: True spiritual growth and discovering one's purpose come from active engagement and genuine connection within a community, not just passive consumption. * Fulfilling Core Needs: Chip argues that fundamental human longings for connection and purpose can only be met through authentic relationships, combating widespread loneliness and depression. * Small Groups are Key: Intimate small groups provide the essential environment for true relationships to flourish, allowing individuals to be known, supported, and transformed. * Call to Action: Chip urges listeners to join or start a small group, emphasizing that significant life change happens in the context of supportive community. * Personal Impact: Chip shares how his own monthly small group provides vital sustenance and ongoing personal growth. Get Out Of Your Head - Taking Every Thought Captive

The Apostle Paul commands us to take every thought captive. But what does that look like in our fast-paced society where we're constantly bombarded by everything? In this program, Chip turns the mic over to guest teacher Jennie Allen for her series “Get Out of Your Head.” Don’t miss how we can guard our minds against toxic thoughts that threaten to destroy us. Introduction: There’s an enemy that wants to kill, steal, and destroy our generation through our minds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 v.3: For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. * There is a spiritual war that is waging against us and it’s not of the flesh. v.4: For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. * Repetitive negative thoughts build strongholds. v.5: We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, * God gives us the power to destroy strongholds. --- Romans 12:2 v.6: being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. * The sum of our lives will be rooted in what we think about. --- Proverbs 23:7a Broadcast Resource * Download Free MP3 [https://livingontheedge.org/product/get-out-of-your-head-mp3/?source=WEBPODDON&referral=PODCAST] * Message Notes [https://livingontheedge.org/broadcasts/message-notes/page/3/?series=2780] * Get Out Of Your Head Book [https://livingontheedge.org/product/get-out-of-your-head-bogo/?source=WEBPODDON&referral=PODCAST] Additional Mentions * Jennie Allen's Free Book Club Kit [https://www.jennieallen.com/freebies] Connect * 888-333-6003 [tel:8883336003] * Website [https://livingontheedge.org/] * Chip Ingram App [https://livingontheedge.org/chip-ingram-app] * Instagram [https://www.instagram.com/livingontheedgewithchipingram] * Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/LOTEcommunity] * Twitter [https://twitter.com/lotecommunity] Partner With Us * Donate Online [https://livingontheedge.org/donate/?source=WEBPODDON&referral=PODCAST] * 888-333-6003. I Choose Peace - In Difficult Circumstances, Part 1

As we travel, we understand the horizon is always moving. The same is true in our desperate search for peace. In this program, Chip tells us peace is not a thing to be achieved, but a secret to be discovered. Introduction: What would it take for you to be content? Content: Happy enough with what one has or is; not desiring something more or different; satisfied. -Webster’s Dictionary The Problem: The horizon is always moving. Two Historical Solutions: 1. Conquer, achieve, and acquire until satisfied. 2. Desire less and less until it doesn’t matter. The Question: How can we be satisfied…today? * The Answer: Philippians 4:10-13 * The Occasion: A “Thank You” Note -Philippians 4:10-13 * The Conclusion: Contentment is not a thing to be achieved, but a secret to be discovered. * How? Four Principles – Four Practices: Principle #1 - Our contentment is not dependent on our circumstances. * Practice = BE THANKFUL/GRATEFUL -Philippians 4:10 Principle #2 - Contentment is an attitude we learn not a thing we achieve. * Practice = BE TEACHABLE -Philippians 4:11 Principle #3 - Prosperity does not have the power to give us contentment; nor poverty the power to take it away. * Practice = BE FLEXIBLE / CHANGEABLE -Philippians 4:12 Principle #4 - Only Christ has the power to give us a contentment that transcends all life’s variables. * Practice = BE CONTENT / TRUSTING -Philippians 4:13 Conclusion: Contentment is not passive acceptance of the status quo, but the positive assurance that God has supplied one’s needs, and the consequent release from unnecessary desires.
