She helped found the Clover Leaf Art Club, one of the first African American Women’s clubs in the state. She was also a part of the Washington State Federation of Colored Women’s Organizations, Tacoma chapter of the NAACP, Tacoma Inter-Racial Council, and the Progressive Mother's Club of Tacoma. In this episode of Long Shadows of Seattle, host Stellan Harris covers the history of Daisy Tibbs Dawson (1924-2013). Dawson was a peace activist and educator and the only Black person to be memorialized in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. She is most known for her work in Hiroshima, Japan in 1949 on the "Houses for Hiroshima" program, where she helped rebuild housing that was destroyed by the atomic bomb.
