Did Romanticism Predict Our Obsession With Virtual Worlds? What if our obsession with virtual reality, immersive worlds, and digital escapism isn’t new at all? In this episode, I explore how 19th-century Romanticism predicted our modern obsession with virtual worlds from idealized landscapes and emotional intensity to escaping reality and creating alternate worlds. Romanticism emerged during the Industrial Revolution, when life became mechanical, structured, and disconnected from emotion. Artists, poets, and thinkers responded by turning toward nature, imagination, dreams, and idealized realities. Today, we’re doing something similar: • Virtual reality • Digital worlds • Video games • Aesthetic lifestyles • Escapist content Just like Romantic artists, we’re searching for emotion, meaning, and immersion but now through technology. In this episode, I explore: * What Romanticism was * Why it emerged historically * The psychology of escapism * How it connects to virtual reality * Why immersive worlds are becoming more popular A reflection on art, culture, psychology, and the digital future. romanticism, virtual reality, escapism, art history, philosophy, cultural commentary, romantic era, digital culture, immersive worlds, psychology of escapism, modern culture, art and technology, romanticism explained, industrial revolution, digital escapism, philosophy podcast, culture podcast, art history podcast, creativity, imagination, cultural analysis, violeta oralogul, thought provoking podcast, modern philosophy, art and culture
