S2E7: Ten Acceptable Sukkahs (Sukkah 2:2-3)

Today’s episode covers Sukkah 2:2-3. These two mishnas feature a bevy of out-of-the-ordinary sukkahs that are nonetheless acceptable for use. You can find them on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.2.2?lang=bi].   I dedicate today’s episode to the memory of Lieutenant Nathan Baskind, z”l. Read about Lieutenant Baskind here: https://www.operationbenjamin.org/nathanbaskind [https://www.operationbenjamin.org/nathanbaskind]  May his memory be for a blessing, and may the Torah we can learn because of his sacrifice lead to an elevation of his soul.   You can follow Mishna Accomplished on Instagram at @mishnaaccomplished [https://www.instagram.com/mishnaaccomplished] - only one “h” in “mishna”! S2E6: How Pointy is your Sukkah? (Sukkah 1:11-2:1)

Today’s mishnas are jam-packed: We finish chapter 1 with pointy-topped sukkahs and reed mats. We start chapter 2 with a story about sleeping under the bed in the sukkah that dredges up some uncomfortable stuff. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.1.11?lang=bi].  Content warning: The mishna discusses all aspects of adult life. Today’s episode will briefly discuss sources of ritual impurity. Listener discretion is advised.  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. aflevering S2E5: Queen Helene's Breezy Sukkah with Dr. Sara Ronis (Sukkah 1:9-10) artwork

S2E5: Queen Helene's Breezy Sukkah with Dr. Sara Ronis (Sukkah 1:9-10)

Today, we welcome Dr. Sara Ronis to the pod as we discuss Sukkah 1:9-10. These mishnas cover aspects of Sukkah construction, including gaps at the top and bottom of walls and schach placed over preexisting structure. Dr. Ronis tells us all about Queen Helene, whose sukkah was discussed extensively in the Talmud on Sukkah 2b (read it here [https://www.sefaria.org/Sukkah.2b?ven=english%7CWilliam_Davidson_Edition_-_English&lang=bi]) and featured gaps between the tops of the walls and the schach, like in our mishna. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.1.9?lang=bi].  Dr. Ronis is an Associate Professor in Theology at St. Mary’s University in Texas. Find out more about her, including about her excellent book, Demon in the Details, at https://sararonis.com/ [https://sararonis.com/].  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. aflevering S2E4: A Sukkah in a Haystack with special guest Ren (Sukkah 1:7-8) artwork

S2E4: A Sukkah in a Haystack with special guest Ren (Sukkah 1:7-8)

Ren B returns to the pod and we overview the order of Mo’ed and its tractates. Our mishnas for today are Sukkah 1:7-8, continuing the discussion of using boards from your roof as schach, as well as supporting your schach on material that is not itself kosher schach and the possibility of a haystack sukkah. You can find these mishnas on Sefaria here [https://www.sefaria.org/Mishnah_Sukkah.1.7?lang=bi].  I use a lot of Hebrew terms when I'm talking. Check out my glossary here [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1P8RB6qXpZ7gXEa5iYVfrANK7fskmU9Em5OaYlu0Yybs/edit?usp=sharing]. Today in particular, we listed a lot of names of tractates. The Sefaria main mishna page [https://www.sefaria.org/texts/Mishnah] should be helpful to figure out which tractate is which. Are you enjoying the podcast?
