Modern Latina in Midlife
If you've been hanging out with me lately, you know we are officially in the thick of our Summer of Joy Experience, and today, I wanted to pull back the curtain and give you our very first two-week check-in. To be completely honest, I started this journey as a personal promise to my ancestors, my spirit guides, and my own tired soul to stop putting playfulness on the back burner. But what I didn't expect was the absolutely beautiful, tear-jerking ripple effect that is happening in our community right now. From friends dusting off old instruments they haven't touched in years to the simple, radical act of wearing red lipstick to meetings on a random Monday, we are collectively changing the energy of how we show up. Grab your favorite drink and get comfortable, because today we are talking about the magical, unexpected impact we are all having, how to balance the heavy seasons of life with daily pockets of pure delight, and why giving yourself permission to experience joy is the least selfish thing you will do all year. Episode Highlights * Two Weeks In: The Joy Check-In: Where we are on the six-week journey, how I am maintaining my daily commitment, and why I ended up blasting '80s Cyndi Lauper out of a convertible on a random afternoon. * The Beautiful Banjo Moment: A raw, behind-the-scenes share about the heartwarming Instagram tag that literally brought Sonia to tears, proving how one person reclaiming their fun inspires someone else to do the same. * "Vacation Outfits" on a Tuesday: Ditching the beige neutrals and saving your best clothes for a "perfect occasion" that might never come, including the story of the expensive, ruffle-shouldered knit top that finally got to leave the closet on a regular work day. * The Contrast of Duality: Why leaning into playfulness doesn't mean we are ignoring the heavy things happening in our communities. How embracing both joy and sadness deepens our appreciation for being fully human. * The Magic of Romanticizing Your Home: How my boyfriend and his daughter reacted to the cozy, beautifully curated "jewelry of the home" (think diffusers, area rugs, and pretty baskets) and why visual stimulation is a form of self-care. * Who Is Watching You? Recognizing that whether you are on social media or not, your kids, your coworkers, and your friends are witnessing how you treat yourself, and how choosing joy creates a healing ripple effect. * The "Kid-Like" Creativity Hour: I share the pure, messy fun of finally spending an hour working on my retreat book-journal (and I show off my creation on YouTube!).
