The Future of Plastics: Reducing Waste and Rethinking Materials

The world is taking action to limit the flood of plastic waste that is polluting our rivers and oceans and harming wildlife and human health. The United Nations is pursuing a global treaty on plastic waste with the goal of reducing single use plastics and keeping plastics out of the environment. The treaty carries enormous implications for a range of industry sectors and government operations, and policy makers, researchers and business leaders are already at work on ways to replace plastics, encourage their reuse and improve recycling. Our panel of experts from industry and academia will explain the treaty’s impact and how some companies and communities are moving beyond plastic waste and toward a circular economy that keeps plastics in their proper place.   See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy [https://art19.com/privacy] and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info [https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info].

Is AI the Cure to Doctor Burnout?

Newsweek and Hospital for Special Surgery have gathered a panel of experts to discuss one of health care's most pressing topics: Is AI the cure for doctor burnout? Burnout recently hit its peak among health care workers. Last year, nearly half of doctors reported [https://www.ama-assn.org/practice-management/physician-health/physician-burnout-rate-drops-below-50-first-time-4-years] at least one symptom of the condition, according to the American Medical Association. Physician burnout is more than an industry issue—it's a public health concern. Research [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6258067/] links detached, fatigued doctors to major medical errors. The issue is poised to worsen. Burnout has contributed [https://www.mgma.com/mgma-stats/even-as-covid-19-pandemic-eases-a-physician-burnout-epidemic-continues] to a post-pandemic doctor exodus, and the Association of American Medical Colleges estimates [https://www.nature.com/articles/s41514-024-00148-2] that the U.S. will be short 139,000 physicians by 2033. For America's aging population, fewer doctors means more trouble.
