One Church, Blackburn
Why would a good God let his brand new church be struck with persecution, prison and death before it had barely drawn breath? In this message Linda Bailey opens Acts 8:1-8, where the death of Stephen gives way to fierce persecution, and asks the question every one of us eventually faces: why does God allow suffering? Linda contrasts the Western, Eastern and Christian ways of reading our pain, and lands on the difference that changes everything: we worship a God who is both sovereign and suffering. He has a plan we cannot always see, and he has gone to the cross himself, so that when we suffer he understands and comes alongside us. Remarkably, in just eight verses, persecution gives way to great joy in a whole city.
