Grief is not a problem you solve, it’s an experience you learn to carry differently.

When bad things happen, most people almost immediately think, “This too shall pass.” But does it really pass? “This too shall pass” can be a dangerous phrase because it is deeply rooted in the avoidance of grief, when instead, we should be learning how to live with it. I lost my grandmother who raised me. I lost one of my favorite aunties to childbirth, and very recently, I lost my job. Yet, I still wake up every morning hopeful, genuinely smiling and laughing at funny jokes and moments, not because I’m unbothered by the valuable people and things I’ve lost, but because I’m aware that I’m currently creating better memories, and there are still happier memories yet to be made in the future that will make my current situation feel lighter.

You owe someone emotional debt. Yes, you.

We often see emotions from a negative perspective. It’s never been about the opportunities to feel presented by our mind, but about shying away from feeling vulnerable or sad. It’s so disappointing how we’ve taken the opportunity to feel, grieve, and let our hurts flow freely through our tears for granted. Who even started this? I’d like to know.. Why have we been presented with a box to stay in and we are gladly taking it unaware it’s a trap wrapped with a bow? There shouldn’t be no such thing as masculine or feminine energy. All you should look to attain is your potential at its peak, not following the bandwagon. You’re a woman but you’re not soft spoken, so what? What does that have to with anything? You’re a man and you’re soft and non-aggressive. Baby!!! Why are we trading substance for spectacle? Somewhere along the way, beauty became the goal and character became optional. I reflect on our obsession with appearances and what it’s quietly costing us: kindness, depth, and the way we treat one another. Because at the end of the day, being admired is not the same as being good.

Most people blame their lack of progress on discipline. They tell themselves they’re not focused enough, not consistent enough, not strong enough. But what if that’s not the real issue?
