As members and supporters of queer, BIPOC, disabled, and racialized communities, the Ruckus Women aim to facilitate the sharing and creation of ant-establishment art, dismantling oppressive institutions and empowering those not being given a seat at the table. Art for art’s sake, or l’art pour l’art, is a philosophy that originated in France in the early 19th century that suggests the purpose of art is not to serve some higher moral, cultural, or political purpose; rather, the value lies in the artistic pursuit itself. This bohemian slogan inspired a movement advocating that art needs no justification.
