Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2503247/fan_mail/new] What would you sacrifice for your child's future? In this deeply emotional episode of Rise Tayo Podcast, we share the incredible true story of Maria "Che" Ong and her daughter, Arabella—a story of sacrifice, separation, perseverance, faith, and the Filipino immigrant dream. In 2011, Che left the Philippines with only two suitcases, $500 in her pocket, and a dream of creating a better future for her family. She arrived in North Carolina alone, sleeping on the floor of an unfurnished apartment while working tirelessly as a Physical Therapist. But the road was not easy. For four long years, she lived thousands of miles away from her husband and six-year-old daughter, Arabella. She battled loneliness, homesickness, uncertainty, and even survived a near-fatal car accident that nearly ended her life. During that moment, one thought consumed her heart: "My daughter is still in the Philippines." Meanwhile, Arabella was growing up without her mother physically present, holding onto hope that one day they would be reunited. After years of sacrifice, that reunion finally came. Today, Arabella is a Summa Cum Laude graduate and will begin her nursing career as a Neuro ICU nurse at Duke University Hospital. Together, this mother-daughter tandem reflects on the challenges of immigration, cultural identity, bullying, discrimination, resilience, family values, and the sacrifices that often go unseen behind success. This episode is for every Filipino immigrant, every OFW, every parent who has sacrificed for their children, and every child who wants to understand what their parents endured to create opportunities for them.
