Beschrijving

On this episode of Moments Almanac, we journey from Renaissance France to a Tennessee courtroom, with a stop at one of London's great fires, discovering what three very different events have to teach us about conviction, humility, and Christian witness. Meet John Calvin, whose lifelong pursuit of Scripture and scholarship helped shape Protestant theology. Stand in Dayton, Tennessee, as the famous Scopes Trial turns questions of faith and science into a national spectacle. Then reflect on a fire that swept through medieval London, reminding us that while truth can bring light, controversy can also burn bridges. Anchored in 1 Peter 3:15 and Proverbs 15:1, today's reflection explores how followers of Christ are called not only to defend the faith, but to do so with gentleness, respect, and hope. History remembers the arguments. Scripture reminds us to remember our spirit. Scripture: 1 Peter 3:15; Proverbs 15:1 Moments Almanac is a daily journey through history, faith, and the people, places, and events that leave fingerprints on the soul. Psalm 1: The Tree

Discover the quiet strength found in Psalm 1. In this episode of Psalms Meditations, we reflect on the opening words of the Psalms and the beautiful image of a tree planted by streams of water. In a world that prizes speed, visibility, and constant achievement, Psalm 1 reminds us that the deepest work of God often happens beneath the surface. Together we'll consider what it means to delight in God's Word, remain rooted in Christ, and trust Him to produce fruit in its proper season. Whether you're beginning your day, ending it, or simply seeking a few moments of peace in God's presence, this reflection invites you to slow down and be nourished by the living water of His truth. Scripture: Psalm 1:1–3; John 15:5 May your roots grow deep in the love of Christ, and may His Word become your song. Share Your Thoughts [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2602723/fan_mail/new]

July 9, 2026 | Moments Almanac | Disaster

On July 9, history offers two very different tragedies. In 1900, during the Boxer Rebellion, a Chinese governor lured missionaries and Chinese Christians into a place that promised safety—only to order their execution. Among them was a fifteen-year-old believer who refused to deny Christ. Eighteen years later, on the same date, two passenger trains collided at Dutchman's Curve near Nashville, Tennessee, in one of the deadliest rail disasters in American history. This time, no one intended the loss of life. A series of small mistakes became an irreversible catastrophe. One tragedy was born of human cruelty. The other of human error. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 9 and the hymn God Moves in a Mysterious Way, this episode explores the difficult reality that both deliberate evil and unexpected misfortune are part of life under the sun—and the greater hope that God's grace reaches into every kind of wreckage. If you've ever wondered where God is when life turns suddenly, this episode is for you. Psalm 139: The Hidden Room

Welcome to Psalm Meditations, an ongoing series from Scattered Moments—quiet, reflective journeys into the songs of Scripture. Some passages of the Bible are meant to be studied. Others are meant to be lived. The Psalms have a remarkable way of finding us in our joy, our grief, our questions, and our hope, giving voice to prayers we didn't know how to pray. In this episode, "Hidden Rooms," we enter the breathtaking world of Psalm 139—a psalm that reminds us we are completely known and completely loved. Together we'll explore the hidden places of the heart, the unfinished thoughts, the fears we rarely speak aloud, and the comforting truth that God has already been there before us. If you've ever wondered whether God truly sees you—not just the person you present to the world, but the person you are when no one else is looking—this meditation is an invitation to rest in the astonishing grace of being fully known. Take a deep breath. Slow your pace. Let the words of Psalm 139 quiet your heart and remind you that there is no place beyond God's presence, no darkness beyond His light, and no hidden room where His love cannot reach. Psalm Meditations is an ongoing series from Scattered Moments, offering poetic reflections inspired by the Psalms—written to help you slow down, listen deeply, and encounter God through the beauty, honesty, and hope of His Word.
