Lately I’m wrestling with a tougher question than any KPI: how does Jesus want me to lead when I’m trying to live in the Word, show up at church, and still operate in a business world that feels like nonstop spiritual warfare? I’m stepping deeper into leading a restaurant team in Florida, and the old playbook of intensity, urgency, and harsh language still “works”, but it is wearing me out. The bigger question will not go away: how does Jesus actually want me to lead when the stakes are high, the standards matter, and people keep falling short? Brian and I dig into a framework that makes leadership painfully practical: State, Story, Strategy. If my internal state is anxious, pressured, or condemned, my story gets darker and my strategies get complicated. If my state is anchored in God’s presence, my story shifts and the next right move gets simpler. From there we connect leadership, discipleship, and relationship, using Jesus as the model: a leader with magnetism, clarity, and a way of speaking that reaches hearts, not just behavior. We also go to Acts 3 and 4 and talk about Peter, a leader who failed publicly and still led boldly after redemption. The line that flips everything is this: the Father does not call you out on what you did, He reminds you of who you are. That has massive implications for accountability, coaching, culture, and even when it is time to set boundaries or “cut the cord”.
