The Chai Studio
Marco’s life defies easy categories. Born in Zimbabwe to a black family, but with white skin, his story winds through childhood in Africa, schoolyard fights in the UK, squatting in Antwerp, and conversations about culture, identity, homelessness, incense, and the value of community. This episode is raw, reflective, and full of humour — from getting lost in Antwerp following a road sign, to navigating Belgian bureaucracy as a stateless wanderer. Along the way, we talk candidly about race, class, discipline, and language, including some colourful (and very not-child-friendly) insults in Shona. ⚠️ Note: Contains strong language and Flemish phrases. Not suitable for children.
