Beschrijving

Today we are concluding our study of Paul’s book to the Philippians. Paul himself in this passage is concluding his letter; this pastoral letter written to a church he founded. After his instruction on Christian doctrine and behavior, in closing he wants to thank this church for their faithful support. Earlier in this letter he wrote that he wanted them to live in a manner worthy of the gospel. He wants to demonstrate this way of life by his own behavior. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Phil 1:27 The issue seems to be that the Philippians are supporters of Paul’s ministry. Earlier in this letter Paul wrote, I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now. Phil 1:3-5 Paul wishes to express his gratitude to them but yet help them realize they are vessels of the Lord in their giving and that he is not looking to them for support but to God.

Advent - Christ In All Of History

The Advent, Christ in all of History — John 1:1-14 Dec 4, 2016 Advent —the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event, the first season of the Christian church year, leading up to Christmas and including the four preceding Sundays. One of the things I appreciated most about growing up in the Roman Church was the liturgy that surrounded Christmas and Easter. It helped me as a young boy focus on the history of both Christ’s birth and His resurrection. The liturgical ritual of Advent caused my mind at this time of year to be more wrapped up in the advent, the birth of Christ than in the coming of Santa. For me, church liturgy, Advent, added some mystery and meaning to life. The spiritual reality of the kingdom, the coming of the Christ, was in the air and life became an anticipation of Emmanuel, God with us. Christmas day and the festivities, all the food, fellowship, family and presents, was a celebration of the long awaited coming of the Lord. This was very potent medicine for seducing a young boys heart toward the reality of God.
