Episode 6: Juneteenth / J. Cole vs NoName / Tim Scott Token GOP Policing Bill

This week’s episode of The Connex Podcast was recorded the day after Juneteenth 2020.  America has finally come around to celebrating this important day of recognition of the end of slavery nationwide. This week also saw J.Cole release his 1st track of the year “Snow on tha Bluff” a supposed response to the female rapper NoName’s recent twitter comments coming at “conscious rappers” that have not spoken up to support the movement during these times.  We dived into why his track was poorly timed and problematic as it reinforced the old troupe of tonality and Black women.  For politics of the week, the sole Black Republican in the US Senate, Tim Scott of South Carolina, was the front man for a new policing bill that is being criticized for not being strong enough and not really addressing the deep rooted issue of police brutality toward minorities.  Finally, we wrap up the episode with the WTF moment of the week, where comedian cohost Dwain Watts touches on former Buffalo police officer Cariol Horne’s story of being fired for reporting a fellow officer for unnecessary roughness and her years long fight to get her pension and bring light to the issue of police violence.
