The Galatasaray Show
I've been one of the most vocal critics of the Turkish Football Federation's 10+4 foreign player rule. My concern has always been the same: Galatasaray's goal is to compete with Europe's elite, and limiting squad flexibility could make that more difficult. But after watching Galatasaray's young Turkish players shine in preseason, I started asking myself an uncomfortable question... Was I overlooking an important benefit? What if the biggest impact of the 10+4 rule isn't on today's first team—but on tomorrow's? For the first time in years, academy players and young Turkish footballers at Galatasaray may truly believe they have a realistic path to meaningful minutes... not just in the Süper Lig, but on Champions League nights. If players know that opportunity exists, could it change how hard they train, how much they improve, and ultimately strengthen both Galatasaray and Turkish football? In this episode, I take an honest look at why I may have underestimated one of the rule's biggest potential advantages. I'm not abandoning my concerns—but I am rethinking them.
