Season 12 of The Gaming Backlog "Book Club” covers Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog 2. We discuss our expectations for the games based on what we know of the Mario and Sonic franchises, which is a considerable amount, but certainly not to a deep lore level. But hey, it’s practically impossible to be an enjoyer of video games, casual or hardcore, without having encountered one or both of these beloved game series. These two mascots were pitted against each other constantly in the 90’s, so we’ll be doing the same this season, seeing how much they are really worth comparing, and whether they still hold up in 2026.
