When Anthony arrived in residential care in regional NSW and met his residential care worker Will Mafi, it was meant to be temporary - a place to land until a permanent home was found. But three years later, after other placements were explored, Anthony made a decision that changed everything: he chose to stay with Will, long-term. On this episode of The Moment, DCJ foster carer Will joins Myf Warhurst and Lynne McGranger - Australia’s most famous (fictional!) foster carer on TV - to talk about how a single, gay, proud Tongan foster dad became exactly the person one young man needed in his corner... and why there’s no such thing as a 'right' type of foster carer. Right now, there’s a real shortage of foster carers in New South Wales. NSW residents, if this story lands with you, search “Become a foster carer NSW” to find out more or go to nsw.gov.au/fostercare. Finding yourself again at 40... with Eliza Hull

You're 40. You're supposed to have it all figured out by now. And then, quietly, everything comes apart. This is the story of what musician Eliza Hull found on the other side of her own unravelling... the anger she stopped hiding, the version of herself she'd lost touch with, and the boldest music she's ever made. Myf knows all about this chapter of coming undone and could it be the most freeing thing that can happen to a woman in midlife? What the Kylie Documentary Reveals About How We Treat Women

Myf is fresh from hosting the ARIA Hall of Fame, where six artists were finally given their due... and she's thrilled to see women being celebrated at last, with Vika and Linda going to number one the very next day. But the new Kylie Minogue documentary has her thinking hard about how cruelly we've treated our female pop stars, from Kylie to Britney to Amy Winehouse, and why it has to stop. She also gets into the Tyra Banks lawsuit over the America's Next Top Model doco, and pays a moving tribute to the late David Hockney and the love behind his work. Drawing Outside the Lines: Winning the Stella Prize with a Graphic Novel

Award-winning cartoonist and graphic novelist Lee Lai joins us to discuss making history as the first author to win the Stella Prize for a graphic novel. In this conversation, we explore the evolving place of graphic novels in contemporary literature, the painstaking process of creating hand-painted comics, and the realities of sustaining a creative career. We also dive into the themes behind their acclaimed work, including queer friendship, anger, personal agency, and the symbolism of magpies as witnesses to the story. From building a creative life in Montreal to navigating the attention that comes with major literary success, this is an insightful conversation about storytelling, community, and what it means to create work that resonates. What playing Irene taught Lynne about foster care

For 32 years, Lynne McGranger played Irene Roberts on Home and Away... the woman who threw open her door to young people in need and quietly parented a whole lot of Australians along the way. This week Myf sits down with Lynne to talk about life after the show, that Gold Logie moment, and the Irene-shaped hole she's left behind. It's also a conversation close to Myf's own heart, as the two get honest about foster care, family and what it really means to show up for a kid who needs someone in their corner. NSW listeners, search "Become a foster carer NSW" to find out more or go to nsw.gov.au/fostercare [http://nsw.gov.au/fostercare] Guest: Lynne McGranger Instagram @lynnemcgranger [https://www.instagram.com/lynnemcgranger/] Stay Connected Instagram @myfwarhurst [https://www.instagram.com/myfwarhurst/] TikTok @myfwarhurst [https://www.tiktok.com/@myfwarhurst] LinkedIn Myf Warhurst [https://au.linkedin.com/in/myf-warhurst-7a682876] Get In Touch Brands/ Partnerships: Myf@mik.studio Show Credits Host & Executive Producer: Myf Warhurst Executive Producer: Amelia Chappelow Producer: Roisin Yau Engineer & Editing: Grant Offner Video Producer: Lauren Cooper Copywriter & Strategy: Antonia Minutolo Photography: Julia Nalles Artwork: Brigitte Greene Sales: hello@mik.studio [hello@mik.studio] Partnerships: Dylan Adams hello@mik.studio This is a MIK Made production  ---------------------------------------- Hosted on Acast.
