We take a look at the meaning of a scale and then get deep into how Greek music was used and the tools they used to create it.

The Hurrian Hymn No. 6 is the earliest example we've found of a performable selection of written music. We look at the culture surrounding the hymn, and relate it to a discussion about Melody and Harmony.

-The show will be academic and chronological. Some basic theoretical concepts will be shared every episode so that if you don’t have a musical education you’ll be able to learn a little fundamental music theory. These two or three principals will be examined in their relationship to whatever historic piece or composer we are examining. -We hope you’ll join us as we attempt to access information and ideas usually limited to the classroom, in a way that hopefully feels conversational and entertaining. -Hopefully this show and others like it will deepen our understanding of the art from and elevate the discourse that surrounds the conversations we have about our favorite composers and works. -We would also like to extend an invitation for everyone to join our community of curious music fans, historians, theorists, and musicologists as we aim to create a program that is dynamically collaborative.
