Just when I think we're going to make a normal-length episode... This one is long again, and I promise I'll keep getting better. But, for now, I hope you enjoy! This week we have a new guest - one of my long-time dear friends, Mr. Dennis Diggins. This week we covered everything Civil War from the first shots at Fort Sumter, to the bloody Battle of Antietam. We touched on the First Battle of Bull Run, McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, and the strategies of Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy.  As always, we had way too much fun talking about these topics in our nation's history, and my non-history guest had a great time thinking back to his 8th Grade History classes and trying to remember all the details. What a wild time it was for the United States, so we hope you enjoy listening!

Reconstruction

Better late than never, as they say! Mr. O'Heney also coaches hockey, and now that the hockey season is up and running it has been a little more difficult to schedule time for the podcast. But here we are with another episode, and this week we are talking Reconstruction. Let's roll! In this week's episode we cover everything from Congressional plans for Reconstruction to the life of the post-Civil War South. We talk Freedmen's Bureau, Constitutional Amendments, Hiram Revels, Sharecropping, the Election of 1876, and the Compromise of 1877. I think we kept it fairly on task this week, but here we are again with another long episode. I'll learn how to summarize better next week...or maybe next year. Either way, I hope you enjoy, and you know where to find me if you have any questions. Mr. O'Heney

Civil War - The Nation Breaking Apart (Lincoln & Southern Secession)

Ok I think it's official - this episode is too long and I officially don't know how to properly add transition music to an audio track. But, I hope you can at least appreciate the thought and effort. I promise to get better as we move forward.  Back with us this week is Mr. Donnelly, Mr. Gaszynski, and Mr. Barelka, and this week we covered the final events that catapulted the United States into the Civil War. We have the formation of the Republican Party, the Election of 1856, the Supreme Court decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford, the rise to prominence of Abraham Lincoln, John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry, and the culminating events of Lincoln's Election in 1860 followed quickly by Southern Secession.  As always, we had way too much fun talking about these topics in our nation's history, and our non-history guests had a great time thinking back to their 8th Grade History classes and trying to remember all the details. What a wild time it was for the United States, so we hope you enjoy listening!

Civil War - The Nation Breaking Apart (Tensions Rise)

This week on the O'Heney Review we are back with not only Mr. Gerry Donnelly, but two other special guests, Mr. Jan Gaszynski and Mr. Adam Barelka! Our two new guests have more of a science background - Mr. G is a Science teacher, and Mr. B is actually an engineer. They were excited to jump into our world and hear about all the things we learned this week, and it was pretty cool to see them revisit the things they learned when they were your age.  We talked about all those important events that were tearing the U.S. apart and leading us into a civil war - everything from the attempts at compromise between the north and the south to the violent and aggressive actions of the notorious John Brown. What a wild time it was in our nation's history, and we certainly had a fun time covering it in this week's episode.
