"The Sisterhood of Radcliffe" Episode 1: Children of the Movement

"The Sisterhood of Radcliffe" podcast series highlights the lives and careers of 8 amazing, Black women who forged a lifelong bond after meeting as freshmen students at Harvard University's Radcliffe College in 1975, a turbulent period for race relations in America. These young women, who were part of a group of about 130 Black students in a total incoming freshman class at Harvard of more than 1500 students, would all graduate from Harvard and go on to achieve life successes, in spite of the racism and sexism of the 1980's and 90's. In Episode 1 of "The Sisterhood of Radcliffe," titled "Children of the Movement," the ladies discuss their family roots, growing up during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, and the incredible sacrifices made their parents in order to provide them with the opportunities to achieve the level of education that would allow them to succeed in a racially divided America. In Episode 3 of “The Sisterhood of Radcliffe” podcast series, the women discuss their arrivals in Cambridge to attend Harvard’s Radcliffe College; the anti-busing protests and other racially charged events taking place in Boston at the time; and stories about how the incoming Black freshmen students, both male and female, met and forged inseparable bonds at what they called “a Historically Black College located in the middle of a major, white University.”
