Angelina and Ann-Marie are celebrating that this is their 25th episode of the podcast!!! As Season 1 comes to a close for the summer holidays the women reminisce on where and how it all started and how far they have come considering they were podcasting virgins this time last year. Ann-Marie still has her head firmly stuck in the sand pretending that she's not out there in the podcasting world telling herdelf that as she cannot see the listeners then they cant hear her!!! The banter is good as the women outline their top tips for a peaceful summer, namely, invest in a good pair of noise reducing/cancelling headphones...... nothing new there!!! This week's episode is heavily influenced by the activities of Angelina and Ann-Marie over the previous weekend. Ann- Marie took time out from her mothering and caring duties to commune with the clothes drying on the clothes-line; a rare and beautiful sight in an Irish Mammy's back yard whilst Angelina jetted off to sunnier clims, ie. Spain for yet another retreat. After Ann-Marie waxed lyrical about the simple pleasures of doing the laundry, Angelina gives us a crash course in the value of silence. She almost gave Ann-Marie a heart attack by going silent during the recording of the podcast....... most of the silence has been edited out!!!!! Angelina describes the unthinkable situation she and her children forund themselves in when the internet went down for 6 days. How did they cope?? The wise crone Ann- Marie suggested watching DVDs!!! After the recording was finished and Ann- Marie had hightailed it back to the city, Angelina had to google DVD...... Its such a long time since she last heard DVD she's forgottoen was it was!!! The conversation then descended into usual chatter and laughter about how these two-stay-at-home mums entertain themselves. It all started with the internet guy and ended with election campaigners. Angelina and Ann-Marie discuss their busy lives and the challenges of raising children with special needs. Ann-Marie is currently under the weaher with a bad dose of hay-fever. Her head is more clogged with snot than wisdom right now!!!! As the conversation turns a little more serious Angelina reflects on how her perspective on her child's disabilities has evolved over time. She used to feel trapped and limited, but now she sees her child's potential, the availability of possibilities and enjoys witnessing her daughter living her best life every day. She attributes this change in perspective to gaining insights and allowing negative thinking to settle down. When we think miserable, we see miserable. Angelina's antidote to miserableness is gratitude. Felling grateful for simple everyday things helps to alleviate negative thinking.
