Why Profession of Faith?

SUMMARY: A public profession of faith is a joyful declaration that your life belongs to Jesus—marking not just a personal decision, but your entrance into a visible, committed community of believers. SCRIPTURE: Matthew 10:32–33 Romans 10:9–10 Acts 2:41–42 Hebrews 10:23–25 Joshua 24:15 Reflection Questions: Why a Public Profession of Faith? Matthew 10:32–33 1. What does it mean to “acknowledge” Jesus before others, and in what ways might you be tempted to keep your faith hidden? 2. Why do you think Jesus connects our public acknowledgment of Him with His acknowledgment of us before the Father? Romans 10:9–10 3. Paul connects believing “in your heart” with declaring “with your mouth.” Why are both the inward trust and the outward confession important? 4. What does the confession “Jesus is Lord” mean for your daily life, decisions, relationships, and priorities? Acts 2:41-42 5. In Acts 2, those who accepted the message were baptized and added to the church. What does this teach us about the connection between personal faith and belonging to the visible church? 6. What can we learn from the example of the early believers as they immediately devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer? 7. Which of the four marks of the early church do you most need to grow in right now: biblical teaching, fellowship, communion/remembrance, or prayer? Hebrews 10:23 8. What do you think it looks like to “hold unswervingly to the hope we profess” when life becomes confusing, painful, or disappointing? Hebrews 10:24 9. How can believers “spur one another on toward love and good deeds” without becoming harsh, pushy, or judgmental? Hebrews 10:24–25 10. Why is gathering with other believers essential to a persevering faith, especially for students and young believers? Acts 2:41–42 and Hebrews 10:23–25 11. How does public profession of faith move someone beyond private belief into shared discipleship with God’s people?
