So much has changed since the 48th anniversary of Renee Freer’s murder. Last year, her case remained open, and many of us believed justice and closure were finally within reach. Instead, the case was abruptly closed when an arrest warrant for the suspect was denied due to a technicality in the law. Nearly 49 years after Renee’s murder, the person believed responsible remains free. What hasn’t changed is our commitment to Renee Freer, our strength as a community, and our determination to seek justice. In the face of heartbreak and disappointment, our community has continued to grow. We come from different towns, states, backgrounds, and generations, yet we are united by one purpose: to ensure that Renee’s name continues to be spoken, her story continues to be told, and that truth continues to be sought. We will continue to fight for the justice that Renee Freer never received. As we mark the 49th anniversary of Renee’s tragic passing, we remember the beautiful 8-year-old little girl whose life was stolen far too soon. She deserved the chance to grow up, to dream, to laugh, and to live the life that was taken from her. Throughout the past month, so many of you have shared heartfelt tributes in Renee’s honor. This montage is a reflection of the love, dedication, and determination that continue to keep her memory alive. The growth of this community is proof that Renee Freer’s life mattered, that her story still matters, and that there are people who refuse to let her be forgotten.
