Season 4: 2019 Lay Leadership Candidates

One of my favorite parts of a Sunday morning at Riverside is the passing of the peace. It’s a simple, succinct, and significant moment that happens in between all the preaching and praying and singing. “Peace be with you,” says one person to another. “And also with you,” they respond. I tend to cheat and sneak in a few more words than this: Good morning! It’s so good to see you today! How has your week been? Basically I want to turn the passing of the peace into coffee hour. And that’s exactly what this show, Welcome to Riverside, is intended to do. Each episode invites you to hear more from the Riverside community, reminding us that the church has never been a building but she is her beautiful and diverse and prophetic and opinionated people. In this season Welcome to Riverside you’ll be hearing from the 2019 Lay Leadership candidates, helping you to better know who you are voting for or simply letting you get to know the Lay leaders in our community. So consider this an extended passing the peace or a coffee hour to go and keep listening as you hear from members running for church council, the education commission, the budget and planning committee, the worship commission, the mission and social justice commission, the membership care and parish life commission, and the nominating committee. I’m Rev. Jim Keat, the minister of design and digital strategy. Welcome to Riverside. // Lay Leadership is the heartbeat of The Riverside Church. As a congregational church the various commissions and committees lead the way as we aspire to embody the love and justice of God in our neighborhood, across the nation, and around the world.
