How is western society organizing and perceiving an ongoing pandemic? Why have a plan when there supposedly is no problem? We talk about the societal construct of framing and how messages can be portrayed, warped, and slowly believed. There are some big ideas in this episode that help make sense of how so many people are turning away from the truth, while Cheryl, Chris, and Kay refuse to look away. They deconstruct what is happening and analyze what language is being used, and insightfully, what language is being excluded. In April 2022 the New Brunswick's Child, Youth, and Seniors Advocate released a vindicating report on the requirements for safe conditions for children in public schools: Masks, accommodations, universal protections. None of these were implemented, as the report was advisory and not legally binding. Fast forward to January 2023 we see which group of people the world's billionaires believe should have universal protections- themselves, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Protections for me, but not for thee? Unacceptable. Everyone deserves to be Davos Safe. In this episode, recorded over the Family Day long weekend, we talk to members of three families about how they approach reducing risks to themselves and others, how they navigate those discussions within their families, what is working well for them, and what they’re concerned about. People who are curious about what steps other households are taking right now will enjoy listening to these reflections from residents of three provinces. Guests are Chantal (10:47), Linda (34:41), and Matt (54:11), and they are parents of children from daycare age up to adults. Listen as they reflect with humour, joy, and frustration about the challenges facing families trying to reduce Covid-19 transmission in 2023.
