When we recorded this, stuff was really ramping up. Economy crashed days ago, everyones out of work. All standup comedy is dead. Theres zoom shows.. but... common ah We had Nick Martinello call in from Halifax. Nick is a hilarious standup comedian. He was most recently based in the UK, after having been a Toronto comedy staple for years. He flew back to Canada right as this started, on the CERB and living his best life. We are learning how to podcast properly, Im going to have to do them solo and with call ins and skype ins or whatever for a while because we can no longer use the studio space without risking the spread of Covid-19 and to be responsible. Its a brave new world, our second episode recorded in late march just as Covid-19 had fully shut down the entire world economy! The systems in place that are collapsing now, are tell tale signs of even greater fault lines in the system itself. If covid 19 hadent happened many aspects of what we consider normal either i.Would eventually fall apart either way, however sped up they are by the pandemic & or ii.Would not but should, must and we are struggling so that they do fall apart. The systemic racism, the classism, inequality & nothing less than war crimes that are implemented on a global scale while commodotized masses dredge on for shareholders cannot and will not hold. As a comedian I am not , will not and cannot waste any time with dumb safe, clean and stale knock knock jokey jokes. That dont have a purpose. On stage I provoke, spark and force ideas of change and truth telling. This podcast is no different. These long form discussions and fleshing out of ideas. Pre Covid, we may just be some Canadian idealists sitting around our liberal inflated bubbles talking shit, but todays world is one where rapid change is happening all around us, must happen fast and smart but above all must be implemented in a way so that we dont just end back to the old ways of sugar coated racism and infighting non unified divisionism. Episode One of Activate the Sleeper cell This episode was recorded March 3rd, in a world long forgotten. I am Vandad Kardar a comedian, producer & podcaster in Toronto & with your help we will go on a journey of self discovery, truth seeking, problem solving and activation. What I do have is an insatiable appitite for change, knowledge, real quantifyable justice and will not (can not ) rest until I see and encourage more good in this world. Lets not make any mistake here, when you let the the agents of bad win, and they are winning by almost every category from global affairs to health, energy, security and freedom - they win! When the voice inside you that says this is nonsense and needs to change, then plugs back in and lets the status quo keep chipping away at the foundations of what we hold dear, you arent just not helping you are activated as an agent for bad.
