Is Your Mental Illness Real? : Nature, Nurture and the Anti-Psychiatric Movement
The episode I was working for weeks on but so many things kept happening and caused its delay. But it’s finally here, y’all! I hope this LONG monologue helps those who have had that same idea that mental illness isn’t real pushed onto them. By introducing you to some new perspectives and information, I hope this gives you some clarity and pushes you to research further into yourself and your psyche. Credit to Abigail Anetekhai (@unlearning__) for the incredible insights she brought into the conversation.
The Affluenza Virus: Capitalism Affects Your Mental Health
Since quarantine has started, there’s been another virus that has overtaken my system. Being on social media all day has made me focus on insecurities I wouldn’t have time to think about because I was too busy living my life. While reading a recent book, some new notions that have once sprouted in my mind about how the world works have now flourished and here’s that amalgamation of thoughts in this episode. Basically, this episode is about how capitalism may be playing an underestimated part in our deteriorating mental health. I hope you enjoy!
The Depression ‘Episode’
I’m currently going through a depressive episode and I thought I’d document myself going through it. In this episode I rambled quite a lot but got to discuss some important issues on my mind: how my depressive episodes start about and what happens through them, the glamorisation of depression and how it’s not viewed as an illness by most people.
Confidence: How I Went From Bottom to Top To Bottom Again.
In this episode, I talk about my journey through self-confidence; how my childhood and upbringing influenced it and how moving abroad completely turned my life upside down.
The Male Mind: A Tale of Men, Boys and Jerks.
So I’ve gone back to reading and cannot explain how much these books have helped me understand more about myself and show what values I’m willing to adopt when it comes to male validation that I’ve been taught to aspire to since I was out of the womb.
