Send Me A Message! What's the biggest challenge you face when it comes to looking, feeling, and performing your best? Let me know and I'll show you how to MMU in an upcoming epsiode. [https://www.buzzsprout.com/twilio/text_messages/1771463/open_sms] 🤔 EP063 - Is a science-based approach to lifting all it’s cut out to be or is it just the latest fad, and is there an alternative approach that might be better for getting the results that you really want? As a Trainer, am I guiltier than 99% of the population when it comes to switching between real-science, bro-science, and no-science with myself and my clients. Why? Because at the end of the day, we’re all right and we’re all wrong at the same time. The only truth there is is that there is no one thing that works for everyone all the time. Actually…that’s a lie. There is one thing that works for everyone all the time - finding what works for you. In his book Essentialism - The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, Greg McKeown writes the following: ”The best journalists do not simply relay information. Their value is in discovering what really matters to people. Being a journalist of your own life will force you to stop hyper focussing on all the minor details and see the bigger picture.” Achieving bigger goals means we must first focus on the bigger picture, which means taking a VALUE-BASED, not a science-based approach to health and fitness. But more effort does not necessarily yield more results. “Less but better“ does. - Greg McKeown The idea that a workout needs to kill you to be effective is one that is deeply ingrained in health and fitness culture. Whether it’s CrossFit, HIIT, or even standard strength training with The Big Three, progressive overload is a principle that unfortunately is often injected with steroids. As a result, I’ve seen it do more harm than good throughout my years as a Trainer. But what if doing less, not more, is the answer to breaking through a plateau and promoting progress? 👉🏾 Feel free to hit me up on IG [https://www.instagram.com/carljberryman/] and let me know if you need a spot. 👊🏾 Until next time, we got this! When they set out on their health and fitness journey, most people enlist the help of others as studies clearly show that when you involve others in your pursuit of goals, your likelihood of success goes up. Or does it? In his book The War of Art, Steven Pressfield had this to say about seeking support from others: “Seeking support from friends and family is like having your people gathered around you at your deathbed. It’s nice, but when the ship sails, all they can do is stand on the dock waving goodbye. Any support we get from persons of flesh and blood is like Monopoly money; it’s not legal tender in that sphere where we have to do our work. In fact, the more energy we spend stocking up on support from colleagues and loved ones, the weaker we become and the less capable of handling our business.” If you’re hoping that by enlisting the support of a gym buddy or even a coach like myself, I’ve got some news that you may not want to hear - as soon as your gym buddy or coach steps out of the picture, it won’t be long before the success you’ve achieved disappears because you’ve been ignoring the real issue the entire time. 🤝 Help a Brotha Out! What matters is how you think about yourself when you’re by yourself.” - Tom Bilyueu 🎙️ In today’s PodWod, we be crushing our PHYSICAL Health & Fitness. We all want to be in better shape. Whether that’s losing weight, building muscle, or total body recomposition, one thing is certain - consistency and commitment are the king and queen of it all. Most of us blame what I call the trifecta of trouble - a lack of motivation, willpower, and self-discipline - as to why we lack consistency and commitment. But as Stan Efferding put very bluntly, “If you lack motivation, I can help you with that. That’s your problem to solve.” Before we jump into the busiest time of year for every gym around the world, I think it’s time we re-think what really keeps us from keeping our promises to ourselves and staying consistent with our commitments so that when the trifecta of trouble kicks in, we have a solid solution for our New Year’s Resolutions. 🤝 Help a Brotha Out! Morgan 🎙️ In today’s PodWod, we be crushing our PURPOSE Health & Fitness. In the gym, we often focus on the external results we want to accomplish. Losing weight, building muscle, getting shredded, hitting new PRs with our lifts. All of those are great, but they all represent half of the equation. If you’re in the entrepreneurial game like I am, and you’re struggling to make the kind of money you want to like I am, remember that there are two reasons you got into this game; the good reason (make more money), and the real reason. The WHAT is the good reason. The WHY is the real reason. 🤝 Help a Brotha Out!
