Dr. Afonin obtained an M.S. in chemistry from Saint Peterburg State University and a Ph.D. in photochemistry from Bowling Green State University. Dr. Afonin is a founding member and vice president of the International Society of RNA Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine. His research interests are centered on the development of functional RNA-based nanomaterials.
