TABLE OF CONTENT TALKING POINTS Episode (48) 7-18-21 (Host Scene) Zazz - Welcome to Episode 2 of Table of Content World. A show by streamers for streamers and the wonderful people who support them. I am Zazzaboo your host and the Editor in Chief of TableOC.com [http://tableoc.com/]. ~Welcome to our regularly scheduled guest host Eminent Stump. Stump do you want to tell us about your up coming excursion? Introduce the boys Hate: Streaming News Despite Twitch ban, Amouranth beats Pokimane & Valkyrae to become the most-watched streamer The entire Twitch community has long been trying to get Amouranth off the platform for a multitude of reasons - most notably, her "suggestive content". However, it seems like her plans to gain popularity through 'pseudo-ASMR' content have been paying off well so far. She recently became the most-watched female streamer across every platform out there, with a watch time of 13 million hours on Twitch. With this record, she has beaten Valkyrae and Pokimane - two of the most influential and popular female streamers at the moment. Well her plans have worked and many of those who criticized her may have added to the 13 million hours watched on Twitch. This is not the first time the hypocrisy of a community has been exposed like this. The world has seen people secretly follow the content of those who they have condemned many a time. On a different note, Amouranth's achievement might be alarming to some in the community. While the Twitch community condemns her content as being provocative, suggestive and harmful, this achievement goes to show that her content has a rather massive target audience. BATS - As someone who was banned for something inconsequential how does this stuff hit you? Ludwig warns Twitch will "die" if streamers just keep reacting to each other Ludwig Ahgren has spoken out against Twitch streamers reacting to each other’s clips every broadcast, warning the ever-popular streaming platform may “slowly die” if stars continue to simply rely on others’ content rather than creating their own. “There are just too many ‘React Andys’ now,” he said. “They’ve gone too far. I feel like people go live and all they do is watch other people’s content. I mean, it’s fine, I do it, but it’s really becoming too much.” The Twitch star warned, if left unchecked, the meta of streamers “feeding” off each other’s content could have major repercussions for the platform: “That content is fun, yeah, I like it. But if everyone does it, all the time, then the whole Twitch ecosystem dies. Someone has to be creating content for people to keep stealing. “What we need is fresh content, instead of all the reactions. Rogue - If this is the case do you think it could open the door for more smaller streamers to step into higher profile roles and fill the void left by react andys?? YouTube takes a page out of the Twitch playbook with subscriber-only chat Over the past couple of years, YouTube has worked on establishing itself as a streaming platform where gamers can stream their gameplay live to their followers, much like Twitch. Borrowing a few plays from the Twitch playbook, YouTube just added a few features that will make live streaming more enjoyable for both the streamer and their viewers. According to a new YouTube Help post, the company is looking to make its platform more streamer-friendly. The first major update that YouTube has recently pushed out is the ability for a streamer to select subscriber-only chat. The platform also added polls to YouTube stream chats. Polls are a great way for a streamer to interact with their audience, and it allows the audience to have some input on a streamer’s content. The last new feature is the ability for a streamer’s audience to share clips on the stream. This feature has been incredibly popular on Twitch and is a great way for people to discover new content creators on the platform. For now, YouTube’s clip feature is only for users with more than 1,000 subscribers, but the platform said it would eventually roll the feature out to everyone. Stump - We have speculated for a long time about when youtube would make a push at Twitch. Do you think this is a good step? Tech/Gaming News - Twitter is killing Fleets Twitter is killing Fleets less than a year after launching the Stories-like feature to all its users. All Fleets will disappear for the final time on August 3rd. The short lived feature was at times controversial. Soon after it rolled out to all Twitter users last November, many raised questions about how the feature could be used to target others for harassment. Others questioned whether Twitter really needed a “Stories” feature of its own. In a blog post, Twitter VP of Product Ilya Brown said the company hadn’t “seen an increase in the number of new people joining the conversation with Fleets like we hoped.” Brown added that Spaces will continue to get placement at the top of users’ timelines and that the company is still analyzing the full-screen ads it started testing in Fleets last month (Twitter hinted at the time that the new ad format could eventually make its way to other places in the service, too). Bats - On this show we've often laughed at the fact that every service now has stories. Are you surprised that Twitter is the first one to give up on them? Valve Announces the Steam Deck, a $400 Handheld Gaming PC The Steam Deck has a form factor similar to that of a slightly larger Nintendo Switch but with the capabilities of a full gaming PC. It runs a modified version of Valve’s SteamOS, complete with a new console-like interface for easy navigation of both the Steam store and your Steam library, but it also provides access to an unrestricted computer desktop where any third-party applications can be installed (including non-Steam games or launchers). In terms of hardware, the Steam Deck has a 7-inch, 1280x800 resolution, 60hz LCD screen, a custom AMD APU featuring a 4-core, 8-thread CPU paired with 8 RDNA 2 compute units for the GPU, and 16 GBs of LPDDR5 RAM. Practically speaking, that makes it a substantial amount stronger than the Switch, allowing it to run modern games impressively well. Jedi Fallen Order on an in-development Steam Deck at “High” graphical settings with little-to-no issue. It can even suspend running games like a console, and Valve says the intent is really to give players access to their entire Steam library on the go. The Steam Deck doesn’t have a hard release date yet but it’s currently set for a holiday 2021 launch, and Valve President Gabe Newell told IGN that hitting these price points was 'painful' but 'critical'. Rogue- Valve has a history of under supporting or abandoning support for its hardware should users be wary of that here? (then give your thoughts on the console.) Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Voices Concerns Over Preservation of Video Game History Xbox boss Phil Spencer has aired his concerns regarding the preservation of video game history, with Microsoft's backwards compatibility programme contributing to ensuring that a library of games is always available on an Xbox console. This isn't the always the case, however, with backwards compatibility a relatively rare thing on other platforms. However, other companies place far less stock in preserving a back catalogue, as recently evidenced in Sony's decision to close its old browser-based PlayStation Store, making certain digital titles unobtainable. While Sony eventually U-turned on plans to shut down the PS Store on PS Vita and PS3 consoles, questions surrounding how much value there is in games preservation have been raised. “I do worry a little bit about losing our artform and the history of it,” Spencer told the Kinda Funny Gamescast (via GameSpot). “When I think about old ROMs and MAME and these things of where these old games are going to go as the hardware that's capable of running those games. I really wish as an industry we'd come together to help preserve the history of what gaming is about, so we don't lose the ability to go back.” On preservation, one of the things that the cloud does offer us is the ability to throw more hardware at some of the emulation scenarios, to make it possible to really emulate,” Spencer continued. “When we’re in the cloud, we don’t have to worry about the local compute capability to emulate those old systems. It's one of the reasons why we look at the cloud and we continue on some of our backward compatibility work, which we are still working on, because I want those games to still be playable.” Stump - We've talked a lot about backwards compatibility but approaching it from a historical preservation perspective may be what the industry needs to make it finally make it a priority. FootNotes- Other Notable News Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that Black Adam has finished filming with video from the set. The movie started filming back in april and has given out many teases during production but we will have to wait until next summer for the finished product. Don Cheadle has revealed that Armor Wars wont begin filming until next year. Marvel Studios announced at the end of 2020 that Cheadle will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and star in a solo project as James Rhodes aka The War Machine. We wont likely see this spin off until sometime in 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, THE CONTINENTAL a John Wick Spinoff series has a director. Albert Hughes will direct two episodes of what is now a three-episode event series for Showtime. Each episode is said to be 90 minutes and will carry a budget of around $20 million each. Loki director and executive producer Kate Herron says she won’t be returning for season 2. Loki ended in a game-changing event earlier this week that will forever send shockwaves throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We hope the series still fairs well with a new director. Entertainment News - James Gunn Reveals Why Jared Leto's Joker Isn't In 'The Suicide Squad' The Suicide Squad writer and director James Gunn has revealed why Jared Leto’s Joker doesn’t show up in his film. Whether you liked it or not, Jared Leto’s Joker was a core part of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Looming over the entire Squad, Leto’s Joker received mixed responses from critics and audiences. Some found his character to be juvenile and annoying, while others praised the updated gangster take on the iconic Batman villain. After the film received middling reception, Leto’s Joker was sidelined in favor of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, who received unanimous praise. And so, Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship was severed in Birds of Prey, and the Clown Prince of Crime isn’t set to appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Suicide Squad sequel. Gunn had this to say “I just don’t know why Joker would be in the Suicide Squad. He wouldn’t be helpful in that type of war situation. I wanted to create what I thought of as the Suicide Squad. For me to react to David’s movie would make it the shadow of David’s movie. I wanted it to be its own thing completely.” “When Warner Bros. said they wanted me to do this, I watched the first movie for the first time, and I called them back and said, what do I have to keep from this movie? And they said, nothing. They said, listen, we would love it if Margot’s in the movie but she doesn’t have to be. You could come up with all new characters or you could keep all the same characters.” Bats - We here on TOC aren't exactly big Jared Leto fans so lets get some fresh perspective. Does this help or hurt expectations for this movie? BLACK WIDOW's Writer Was in the Dark About Post-Credits Scene We like to think that Marvel Studios maps out everything years in advance. But, some scenes start filming before anyone really knows what’s happening next. Black Widow is a perfect example of that. Writer Eric Pearson wrote Black Widow and several other Marvel projects including Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man, Avengers: Infinity War, and more. And even he was in the dark when it came to a Black Widow plot point. IPearson wrote the scene featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. When she hands Yelena (Florence Pugh) the photo for her next assignment, no one, not even Pearson, knew who the heck it was even going to be. Rogue - Interesting that they are keeping secrets even from writers. Why do you think that might be? https://screenrant.com/guardians-galaxy-3-william-shatner-role-interest/ [https://screenrant.com/guardians-galaxy-3-william-shatner-role-interest/] When asked if he would join the Guardians for the third installment, Star Trek actor William Shatner exclaimed, "I've guarded the galaxy many times." Guardians 3 still hasn't begun filming, at the moment aiming for a late fall start, though director James Gunn has claimed to have at least completed the soundtrack. After rumors that Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill would be in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the Kirk actor now putting his name in the race showcases just how much fans want their sci-fi galaxies to collide. In an interview with Express, Shatner revealed he is more than willing to play a role in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. While discussing Senior Moment, Shatner teased the possibility of rejoining the Starship Enterprise again as long as it was "it was something worthy," before going on to say he'd love for Quentin Tarantino to direct Star Trek. When asked about any interest in joining Star-Lord and Gamora in the stars, Shatner exclaimed, "Yeah! I’ve guarded the galaxy many times." Stump - Who wouldn't want Shatner in their movie? Streaming News Amouranth & Indiefoxx unbanned: Community reacts to controversial streamers getting away with temporary bans [https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/amouranth-indiefoxx-unbanned-the-community-reacts-controversial-streamers-continue-get-away-temporary-bans] As we talked about on sundays show Several streamers were banned for the new asmr meta on twitch. Well they are back and many are unhappy From Sportskeeda.com [http://sportskeeda.com/] A few have passed since Amouranth and Indiefoxx's latest Twitch ban, and the suspension has been officially lifted. While it's good news for the creators themselves, the community isn't too pleased with how many times Twitch turns a blind eye to their activities. Amouranth alone has been banned over 5 times on the platform, yet her account is safe, while others get permanently banned on the first offense. Many users have expressed their frustrations at Twitch's system and have been calling for a reevaluation of their measures. Banned for seventy-two hours for exploiting the ASMR category with sexually suggestive material, Amouranth [https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/clips-amouranth-s-stream-got-banned-twitch-eliminate-doubt-got-banned?ref=homepage] and Indiefoxx have served out their sentences and are ready to return to the platform. But after 5 bans it begs the question, why does Twitch have hope for streamers who have violated the Terms of Service multiple times? Members of the Twitch community themselves have come out and spoken about the dangerous precedent Twitch's blind eye sets and how this could eventually harm the very fabric of the platform. With the growing pressure from the community, Twitch may deal with suspensions in this vein differently in the future. Coach - Where do you fall on this subject as a female streamer and as a parent? Twitch Banned in An Entire Country Because of One Streamer [https://gamerant.com/twitch-banned-slovakia-one-streamer/] It's hard to go a week without hearing about another Twitch streamer being banned for some seemingly mundane reason. Thanks to unclear rules and inconsistent enforcement, the streaming platform has become infamous for these bans. This time, though, the entire site is the one that's banned, with the users in Slovakia completely unable to access it. Strangely, this site-wide ban is all due to one streamer, as he was found illegally playing online poker while on stream. There's a great bit of humor to be found in the situation, but it is also a serious issue for those Slovakians that can no longer access the site to watch their favorite streamers The streamer in question is dDandis, a Twitch partner with around 35,000 followers. He hasn't been banned from the Twitch platform yet, but his actions did somehow result in the entirety of Slovakia being banned from the site indirectly. At the time of writing, the only internet service provider to have followed through with this so far is O2. It seems that the block was supposed to apply only to dDandis' account, but instead went out to the entire site. It's unclear whether or not other ISPs will follow suit by banning the entire site or instead limit it to just dDandis. Supposedly, the ban went into affect because of dDandis' online Poker streams, which are in violation of the Slovakian laws about promotion of gambling. Symph - The hits keep coming for Twitch. It seems like they are getting more erratic with their bannings and making mistakes while allowing things like our last story to fester. What do you think needs to happen at Twitch to make positive change? Ludwig defends Twitch gambling sponsorships after Clint Stevens' criticism [https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/ludwig-defends-twitch-gambling-sponsorships-after-clint-stevens-criticism-1601445/] Streaming star Ludwig ‘Ludwig’ Ahrgen jumped to the defense of Twitch streamers who take up gambling sponsorships after speedrunner Clint Stevens argued against them. Gambling streams have existed on Twitch pretty much since the very start. There are plenty of content creators who sit and play slots, poker, or blackjack all day, with viewers tuned in to see them win huge payouts. After speedrun star Clint Stevens said that streamers could simply choose not to accept gambling sponsorships, Ludwig jumped to the defense of streamers who accept them. “Does he not f**king get that people’s careers on Twitch last literally years and then it goes away? Like a few f**king years,” Ludwig [https://www.twitch.tv/ludwig] said, referring to streamers securing the bag as they grow more and more popular. Clint also criticized other products that regularly appear as Twitch sponsors, and Ludwig defended them as well, noting he doesn’t take “stupid sponsorships” himself in the same way that others might. Even though gambling streams might be a hot topic, they are likely to stick around. Twitch has dedicated sections for casino games and beyond. Foxx- What is your take on this? Should Twitch crack down on something like gambling with stories like our last and other shady business we have seen them used for ? Tech/Gaming News - Brought to you by FoxxDen Marvel’s Avengers has a weird bug on PS5 that puts your IP address on display [https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/22/22545477/marvels-avengers-bug-ip-address-on-screen-square-enix] Marvel’s Avengers got a big new patch on Tuesday [https://avengers.square-enix-games.com/en-us/news/patch-notes-v1-8-0/?utm_source=twitter_playavengers&utm_campaign=patch_notes_1.8.0_photo_SQEXSOCIAL], but alongside a number of updates, it has added a pretty bad bug on PS5. The game will now show a string of floating text on-screen while you’re playing — and notably, that string includes your IP address, according to Forbes [https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2021/06/22/warning-marvels-avengers-is-showing-your-ip-address-on-screen-after-new-patch/?sh=34fee4f4330b]. That means if you want to stream or show any sort of gameplay on Marvel’s Avengers’ current patch, somebody could use your IP address to learn a lot about you, such as a general idea of your location [https://www.iplocation.net/]. The developers have acknowledged the bug via the game’s Twitter [https://twitter.com/PlayAvengers/status/1407362820082176009] account [https://twitter.com/PlayAvengers/status/1407376121138659332], and in tweets posted after we first published this story, specified that this bug is affecting PS5 players and shared when you expect to see a fix. “We are currently testing a solution to the issue of personal information, including the player’s IP address and username, being displayed on screen on PS5 and plan to deploy a hotfix tomorrow at around 8AM PT,” the developers said [https://twitter.com/PlayAvengers/status/1407388018504257541]. “PlayStation 5 players should refrain from streaming or posting screenshots online until then as sensitive information may be displayed,” they continued [https://twitter.com/PlayAvengers/status/1407388097319473158]. Publisher Square Enix didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment. Coach - This has been fixed now but in a world where privacy is so important how do you think something like this got past them? Should they be accountable for damages that comes from this or other companies that do the same? Hedge Fund That Took Massive Losses on GameStop Thanks to WallStreetBets Is Shutting Down [https://gizmodo.com/hedge-fund-that-took-massive-losses-on-gamestop-thanks-1847149970] In our first story from gizmodo, One of the hedge funds targeted by notorious Reddit investment board r/WallStreetBets is bust, the Financial Times reported [https://www.ft.com/content/397bdbe9-f257-4ca6-b600-1756804517b6] on Tuesday. According to the FT, London-based White Square Capital took big hits during this period. A letter to investors obtained by the paper, as well as sources familiar with the fund’s operations, indicated it will soon shut down its main fund and return capital after it has completed an investigation of its business model. However, one person “close to the fund” told the FT that r/WallStreetBets and meme stocks weren’t the ultimate cause of the fund’s doomsday, as White Square made back “a fair share” of its January 2021 losses on GameStop which hit a double-digit percentage. Florian Kronawitter, a former Paulson & Co trader and White Square’s chief, described the pending shutdown as related to a glut of greedy money in the long-short equity market. Shorting is a high-risk trading strategy where an investor (often a hedge fund) makes a bet that a company’s stock price will tank by borrowing assets and selling them with an agreement to buy them back at the market rate in the future. It was broadly despised [https://gizmodo.com/reddit-s-anarchic-investors-to-hedge-funds-i-hope-the-1846135080] by r/WallStreetBets, which viewed it as yet another destructive Wall Street practice [https://newrepublic.com/article/157991/stock-market-congress-coronavirus] that kills healthy companies and leeches profits off the overall diminishment of the economy. Symphonic - Do you think they are being truthful saying it wasn't wallstreetbets that caused them to shut down? GAMING Microsoft Reveals Windows 11's Impressive Gaming Features [https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/microsoft-windows-11-gaming-features-xbox-game-pass/] Our second story from comicbook.com [http://comicbook.com/] One of the biggest appeals for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service is the fact that subscribers can also enjoy a large number of games on PC. With that in mind, Microsoft has revealed that Windows 11 will be "the best Windows ever for gaming." In a new blog post on Xbox Wire, Microsoft revealed some of the gamer friendly features that players can expect to see from the newest version of Windows. These improvements include superior graphics and faster overall speeds. Combined with the Xbox Game Pass library, Windows 11 should prove to be very enticing for PC gamers. Improved graphics are always a plus, but it's not nearly as exciting if it makes the game run slowly. Thankfully, Windows 11 will implement DirectStorage, another feature utilized on Xbox Series X. This feature allows games to "load assets to the graphics card without bogging down the CPU." Essentially, this means that games will feature impressive graphics, but players won't have to worry about drawn out load times, as a result. Windows 11 will also feature compatibility with a number of Microsoft products, including Wireless Controllers, gaming mice, headsets, and other peripherals. It's a bit early to tell, but from the way things sound, Windows 11 should provide an excellent gaming experience. Foxx - Explain to us more tech illiterate what this means for us and the future of gaming FootNotes- Other Notable News * Marvel has teamed up with VEVE Collectibles to release its first official NFT collectibles. The show will center around Dean and Sam Winchester’s parents, and Ackles will return to reprise his Dean Winchester character as a narrator of the new show. I thought it was a little odd that Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki wasn’t mentioned. I thought for sure he’d be involved, after all, he and Ackles had a close working relationship over the course of 15 seasons. Well, it turns out that Ackles didn’t even tell Padalecki about the project. Padalecki took to Twitter to reveal that he’s had “no involvement whatsoever” in the show and yesterday’s announcement was the first he heard about it. He also says he was “bummed out” and “gutted” that he’s not involved. He wrote, “Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but bummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.” When asked by a fan if his tweet was a joke, Padalecki replied, “No. It’s not. This is the first I’ve heard about it. I’m gutted.” After some Twitter Drama Padalecki says he talked to Ackles and says that things are good between him and Ackles. He shared on Twitter: “@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled a lot of roads together, and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers.” Coach - Do you think the “early in the process” line was an excuse or the truth? Also are you excited for the prequel? https://heroichollywood.com/ewan-mcgregor-obi-wan-kenobi-another-villain/ [https://heroichollywood.com/ewan-mcgregor-obi-wan-kenobi-another-villain/] Back in December, it was revealed by Kathleen Kennedy that Obi-Wan Kenobi would reunite Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader in “the rematch of the century.” However, that apparently won’t be the only villain Obi-Wan will battle in the series as Making Star Wars reports he will also “fight at least one inquisitor.” The Inquisitors were first introduced to the Star Wars canon as Jedi hunters in Rebels and have gone onto appear in everything from the comics to Jedi: Fallen Order. After the Obi-Wan Kenobi cast was officially announced, Moses Ingram teased on social media [https://heroichollywood.com/moses-ingram-obi-wan-kenobi-lightsabers/] her character will wield a lightsaber in the series, so perhaps she’s playing one of the Inquisitors? Making Star Wars also hinted that Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi will leave the twin suns of Tatooine. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has been described as a special event series for Disney Plus, and details on the upcoming Star Wars series are being hidden away on Tatooine. Still, we do know the series will feature a rematch between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and before their final confrontation in A New Hope. Symphonic - Leaks like this always get out but do you think this series would benefit from more being known or less? Chris McKay Teases Batman's Role In Planned 'Nightwing' Film [https://heroichollywood.com/chris-mckay-batman-nightwing-role/] With director Chris McKay doing press for The Tomorrow War, we are starting to hear new details about the Nightwing film announced back in 2017. The director has already shared an update that he hasn’t been told the film has been canceled, so there’s still hope. While speaking with ComicBook.com [http://comicbook.com/], McKay opened up about the themes of his Nightwing film: “It becomes a revenge movie and it’d be an introduction to Nightwing and the world of Blüdhaven. There was going to be a lot of villains. It was going to be real, it was going to be a character study about this guy who grew up with sort of a bad dad. How that made him as a young adult try to fight off and go as far away from that world as humanly possible and get dragged back into it.” Of course, a major question that gets brought up with a Nightwing film is what Batman’s role would be, and a lot has changed since 2017 with the character on the big screen. Chris McKay went on to say that things were still being worked out when he was developing it, but hinted that Batman wasn’t going to play a major role in the planned film “There was still some stuff that needed to be determined of what that was going to look like. It was like you were picking up a Nightwing comic. You’re not guaranteed Batman was going to show up, but he could show up and other people could show up, but again you’re dealing with Nightwing and that’s what I like about it. I like the idea that we don’t necessarily connect to certain things, we can just have it be a story that takes place in Blüdhaven or with Dick Grayson and his world. How he became Nightwing and why be became Nightwing there was a lot of stuff I liked about the approach.” Foxx - There is a lot to unpack here. First off I would be stoked if they still make this movie. Secondly, does a movie like this need the Bat or do you think the inner monologue of a brooding Dick Grayson be enough Batman for the movie? The channel will have sessions about the future of gaming, news related to gaming, celebrity participants and more. Throughout the summer, Twitch will host multiple events to boost the channel’s reach, and some of those will be in partnership with Chipotle. As a part of the sponsorship, Chipotle will host a new game. “Chipotle Build Your Own PC,” inspired by Chipotle’s burrito bar format, will have players will build their own PCs with streaming “extras” (e.g. lighting panels and soundproofing equipment), and donate the PCs to a non-profit organization. Chipotle is also launching a branded feature where hosts and guests provide their unfiltered opinions on the gaming topic at hand. Jeff: Do these sort of corporate partnerships mean main stream adoption or will they ultimately bring Twitch down? Twitch Bans Amouranth, Indiefoxx, and More Over Controversial "ASMR Meta" [https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/twitch-asmr-tiktok-leggings-meta-amouranth-indiefoxx-steam-banned/] Twitch has banned Amouranth, Indiefoxx, ExoHydraX, and more over recent ASMR streams. At the moment of publishing, Twitch has not confirmed this is the reason behind the ban spree, but given who the targets are and that all of the bannings came at once, suggests it's for said streamer's participation in the new "ASMR TikTok Leggings Yoga Meta," more often referred to as the "ASMR Meta." Much like the Hot Tub streams before, this new meta exploded out of nowhere, with many of the same streamers involved. As you may remember, both Amouranth and IndieFoxx were at the origins of the Hot Tub meta, and they were once again at the center of the new ASMR Meta as well. And for their troubles, they've banned by the platform, though it's unclear if the bans are temporary or permanent. At the moment of publishing, Twitch has not addressed the controversial new meta in any capacity beyond these bannings. As you may remember, it was very slow to address the equally controversial Hot Tub meta, so this may not change anytime soon, and it may not change at all if these bannings kill off the meta, which has yet to take off on the same level as the hot tub meta. That said, the bannings come after many in the Twitch community -- including several of the platform's top streamers -- began to criticize the trend and Twitch for its lack of response. Beard: Was Twitch right to ban these streamers over the new ASMR Meta? Adin Ross warns Twitch fans not to buy 'trash' crypto coin he hyped up in paid stream [https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/adin-ross-warns-twitch-fans-off-crypto-coin-hyped-up-1597386/] Popular Twitch streamer Adin Ross has admitted to promoting a ‘trash’ cryptocurrency to his audience, laughing about the deal weeks later while hoping “no one actually bought it.” Various cryptocurrencies and token exchange platforms have become increasingly prominent sponsors across social media in 2021. Ross was just one of many streamers engaged with a recent crypto push on Twitch. However, just weeks later, the popular figure has now laughed off one such deal, and admitted he hoped “none of his fans actually bought in.” During a sponsored Twitch stream in May, Ross was actively pushing a newly created ‘MILF Token.’ Throughout the broadcast, he was converting hundreds of dollars into the cryptocurrency and pushing it in front of thousands of viewers watching him live. Ross also promoted the Token in a now-deleted tweet. At the time Ross was paid for the sponsored stream, MILF Token was valued at upwards of $0.001 on CoinMarketCap [https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/milf-token/]. Today the cryptocurrency now sits at a price of $0.00006, marking a decline of roughly 180% in just a few weeks. Reflecting on his paid engagement with the crypto brand, Ross laughed about the situation in a June 18 broadcast. “Chat, by the way, that MILF Token sh** I did a while back… I already told you guys, don’t buy that sh**.” Stump: This isnt financial advice but I think its safe to say if you see celebrities or personalities taking money to promote shitcoins its probably a good idea to avoid them. Tech/Gaming News - Brought to you by The Guy from the sneak commercial OFFICIALLY ROGUE Cyberpunk 2077's Latest Patch Continues to Try and Make the Game Run Better on Console [https://www.ign.com/articles/cyberpunk-patch-1-23-console-cpu-improved] Secondly from IGN, the game the internet loves to hate. Cyberpunk 2077 has just released its latest patch, 1.23 for PC, consoles and Stadia. Among the usual mix of fixes, it makes clear that CD Projekt Red is continuing to work on making the game perform better on consoles. Announced on the Cyberpunk 2077 website, patch 1.23 includes "various console CPU optimizations." While detail's lacking, CPU optimizations could help everything from frame rate to calculations made to improve the game's simulation. Whatever those changes, it's clear that the developers are continuing to work on the game's general performance on last-gen consoles, or in backwards compatibility on new-gen consoles. That's particularly important in light of the game's return to the PlayStation Store on June 21. Six months after being removed from the service, Sony clearly now sees the game as stable enough for sale on its store – but still made a point of telling users with original PS4 units that they will "continue to experience performance issues with the PS4 edition while CD Projekt Red continues to improve stability across all platforms." Hopefully, patches like this will go some way towards remedying that problem. Jeff: Are you jumping in or do you think we should wait for CDPR to show proof this is working? E3 highlights new titles and efforts to diversify gaming industry [https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2021/6/16/e3-highlights-new-titles-and-efforts-to-diversify-gaming-industry] E3 2021 had plenty of new game announcements, including the long-awaited Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Nintendo released a new trailer for its upcoming sequel that’s as bold and creative as Zelda has ever been. The trailer teased a lot of the aerial action for which Zelda is known, and even new Sheikah Slate abilities (including flamethrowing) that would make even Elon Musk blush. There are also possibilities for multiple villains, including Bokoblins and Ganondorf; the game is set to debut sometime in 2022. Marvel has a few new releases popping soon, including a new game that features the quirkiest group of rebels in the universe — the Guardians of the Galaxy. But it’s going to take a little more than the reputation of the crew and a Marvel licence to make this game sell. The game came under fire because although the game maker (Square Enix) has the rights to the characters themselves, it did not secure the rights to the actors portraying the characters. The game’s otherwise solid graphics, coupled with some zany shooting action and witty banter between the characters, makes for a decent game. Marvel fans might also want to try War for Wakanda, a game featuring everyone’s favourite motley group of superheroes: the Avengers. Players can feel the weight of Thor’s hammer as they help the king of Wakanda keep the country’s vibranium stash away from the likes of Klaw. According to the trailer, the release is slated for August. Nintendo also made some announcements concerning its favourite plumber: Mario. The company has a few new games out including WarioWare and Mario Party Superstars. Mario Party signals the return of dozens of classic mini games and boards from past Mario Party games. In this one, players can play locally or online, including with strangers. It is due to be released on October 29. Players can visit another part of the galaxy, as they step into the world of Avatar. Ubisoft provided a look at the lush jungles of Pandora featured in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Beard: There was a ton to get excited about at E3 which of all the games do you think will be the big breakout? FootNotes- Other Notable News * Carrie Fischer is getting a Hollywood walk of fame star. Her daughter Actress Billy Lourd is set to give the induction speech. Other notable names getting a star this year include: Francis Ford Coppola, Macaulay Culkin, Willem Dafoe, Salma Hayek, Michael B. Jordan, Regina King, Ray Liotta, Ewan McGregor among many others. * Xbox Cloud Gaming is on its way to Xbox One, Microsoft announced this week. If you are like me and many others buying the hottest new console isn't always in the budget. Cloud gaming will change all. Personally I am excited that Microsoft is changing this industry. * Spotify has acquired Podz, a startup whose technology generates preview clips of podcasts, the streaming service has announced [https://newsroom.spotify.com/2021-06-17/spotify-accelerates-podcast-discovery-with-acquisition-of-podz/]. Unlike other services podcasters can use to manually create clips, Podz apparently automates the process of finding key moments from episodes using machine learning. I can only imagine what it will think of this show. * Leaks on Epic game store seemed to show that we may be getting a FF7 remake version for PC. Game Files codenamed Pineapple were found in the back end of the store but they made a small mistake. The folder contained the name ff7 remake. Obviously its unconfirmed but should generate considerable hype. Entertainment News - Brought to you by us. Disney+ is moving forward with its Beauty and the Beast prequel series, which will focus on the brash, arrogant Gaston and his trusty sidekick LeFou. Luke Evans (The Alienist) and Josh Gad (Frozen 2) will reprise their respective roles, which they first portrayed in Disney’s live-action 2017 remake of the original movie. Evans and Gad are also joined by Briana Middleton (The Tender Bar) as a new character, LeFou’s step-sister. According to the official press release, “the series will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou's step-sister, Tilly, after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy, and adventure.” The show is being written and produced by Gad alongside Once Upon a Time's Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Liesl Tommy (Eclipsed) is attached to direct the first installment of the eight-episode series. EGOT Award-winning composer Alan Menken, who wrote the music for the 1991 animated Beauty and the Beast, returns with an all-new score. “For anyone who’s ever wondered how a brute like Gaston and a goof like LeFou could have ever become friends and partners, or how a mystical enchantress came to cast that fateful spell on the prince-turned-beast, this series will finally provide those answers ... and provoke a whole new set of questions,” said Gary Marsh, president of Disney Branded Television, in a statement. Jeff: This should be a fun way to get some B&B backstory. Do you think Disney should do more things like this with their catalogue of stories? Matt Heafy's Reveals Twitch Channel Income Drawing Power [https://loudwire.com/matt-heafy-twitch-channel-income/] During the pandemic, artists had to find new ways to reach their audience and in a New York Times [https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/16/arts/music/twitch-streaming-music.html] piece, Trivium [https://loudwire.com/tags/trivium]'s Matt Heafy [https://loudwire.com/tags/matt-heafy/] reveals just how enjoyable and profitable his life has been since joining the streaming platform Twitch, revealing he makes nearly as much there as from Trivium's other music streaming platforms combined. Heafy was one of several artists profiled within the piece, which addresses how Twitch has become one of the more profitable streaming platforms for artists. In the piece, it's revealed that In 2019 and 2020, Heafy’s band, Trivium, collected an average of $11,000 a month from the other audio streaming services while his own Twitch channel [https://www.twitch.tv/matthewkheafy] generated just under $10,000 from an audience that was about one-tenth the size. Heafy says his daily routine consists of getting his twins dressed and fed before decamping to a bedroom at his Florida home where he uses three computers and three cameras as well as his assorted musical instruments and gear to connect with his viewing audience. Typically online between 9AM and 3PM, the Trivium frontman will practice guitar riffs, play first-person shooter video games and has become known for some of his cover songs and production work. Two of Heafy's most recent collaborations have been delivering a metal version of Richard Marx's '80s ballad "Right Here Waiting [https://loudwire.com/trivium-matt-heafy-richard-marx-right-here-waiting-metal-version/]" with the pop-rock singer and pairing up with fellow Twitch user Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park on a new track called "In Defiance." [https://loudwire.com/mike-shinoda-produces-matt-heafy-in-defiance/] Both collaborations had some "fly on the wall" screen time with Heafy on the Twitch platform as they were coming together. According to the New York Times article, Heafy has around 220,000 followers on Twitch with an average of over 10,000 watching at any moment. “Even if I don’t feel like practicing, I know people are going to be there who want to hear a couple hours of their favorite Trivium songs,” Heafy said. “So I make sure I’m there to make their day good.” Bofa: You and Jeff are both musicians. This sounds like the market is ripe for good music. Have you thought about trying to focus on music on your streams? James Gunn Has Talked to the Heads of Marvel and DC About the Possibility of a Crossover Movie — GeekTyrant [https://geektyrant.com/news/james-gunn-has-talked-to-the-heads-of-marvel-and-dc-about-the-possibility-of-a-crossover-movie] Comic book fans know that there is a divide when it comes to the fandom of DC and Marvel properties. Fans typically gravitate toward one or the other, or if they do enjoy both, they know they are in separate camps. Rarely have the characters from one property crossed over to the other universe in print, and we haven’t seen it happen yet in the modern blockbuster. But while it isn’t likely, it’s not completely out of the question if you ask James Gunn. The Guardians of the Galaxy and upcoming The Suicide Squad director has crossed over, so he’s not ruling out the possibility of the films also merging one day. In a recent Tweet, a fan asked Gunn, “Along this lines, do you think there's even a remote chance we ever see a big blockbuster crossover between the MCU and DC?”. Gunn replied, “I’ve casually talked to the powers-that-be at both Marvel & DC about it. I would love for it to happen. I don’t think it’s likely, but I don’t think it’s an impossibility either. THAT SAID, just constantly seeing crossovers & mashups is less enchanting to me than a strong story.” So it’s not like he has a pitch ready to go, but I think that if Gunn came up with the right story, he’s just the director that both studios would be happy to hear out. Stump: If you could have your dream DC/Marvel mashup, what would it look like? BOLD PREDICTIONS ~Plug your stuff. ~Zazzaboo plug the site, Pod etc ~Don't forget to check out the patreon. Streaming News Streamer says she received an email from Twitch warning of DMCA strike for performing covers [https://dotesports.com/streaming/news/streamer-says-she-received-an-email-from-twitch-warning-of-dmca-strike-for-performing-covers] As we've talked about many times recently Twitch is cracking down on DMCA claims against streamers. This next story though might leave you wondering what can't be copyrighted. From DOT Esports Musician and Twitch partner AyyTrae shared during a recent stream that she received an email from the platform informing her that her covers could wind up resulting in her receiving a DMCA strike on her channel. “Previously Twitch said it was fine as long as you’re controlling every aspect of the music so I was playing the guitar and I was singing,” AyyTrae said. “So it should have been fine but now they’re saying that I cannot have covers of music.” While covers aren’t commonly thought of as targets for DMCA takedowns, they still breach the copyright infringement laws over the composition of a song, leaving them vulnerable to being flagged. AyyTrae’s words come just over a week after Twitch sent out a batch of DMCA takedown notices to streamers, along with an email detailing what creators should do to protect themselves from being targeted. I hope the dmca attorneys don't start hanging out in local bars on saturday nights. Irish - Does this seem excessive to you? What do you think Twitch needs to do to give its creators a little more protection? Dr Disrespect likely banned from $300K World Series of Warzone tournament over Twitch ties [https://www.dexerto.com/call-of-duty/dr-disrespect-banned-from-300k-world-series-of-warzone-tournament-over-twitch-ties-1593388/] Bad news for fans of violence, speed, and momentum. According to the World Series of Warzone ruleset and Twitch partnership, it seems that Dr Disrespect will be banned from the $1.2 million tournament. Warzone is getting its biggest event series of all time: the World Series of Warzone, which has a $1.2 million prize pool and puts 150 streamers, pro players, and content creators in private lobbies. And it looks like Doc will be prevented from participating, let alone getting any air time. Twitch Rivals is partnering with the WSOW and that isn’t good news for Doc fans. For one, the ruleset asserts that all players “shall broadcast their gameplay exclusively on the streaming platform designated.” Additionally, the ruleset also explains that all participants must “be in good standing with respect to the applicable broadcast platform on which the WSOW Tournament is distributed.” Tighe - Do you see this as a Mistepp by the tournament given the Docs popularity? Should they work to try allow him to be involved? Streamer JubileeBlais banned for linking OnlyFans on Twitch twitch [https://www.talkesport.com/streaming/streamer-jubileeblais-banned-for-linking-onlyfans-on-twitch/] Jubilee Blaisdell aka JubileeBlais has been banned from Twitch following attempts to promote her OnlyFans during one of her live stream. Twitch streamer JubileeBlais has been caught in action violating Twitch ToS that forbids actively promoting other platforms, namely OnlyFans during live streams for which they have allotted a “Bio” section for all links for external websites. Her channel being marked for mature content doesn’t let her get away with promoting suggestive content. JubileeBlais confirmed that duration of the ban to be 3 days but in the meanwhile fans can find her content on YouTube. She was aware of the ToS that prohibited sharing any links to mature and suggestive content. So far out, there isn’t any explicit display of nudity on her OnlyFans but Twitch couldn’t care less. Even though she has promised to suggestive content “but I’ll still post some sexy selfies till I figure it out idk”. read one of her Tweet. However, as of now she’ll have to wait for 3 days before she can get back to producing her Pokemon content. Stump - If promoting other platforms is against TOS every streamer on this platform is in big trouble. The idea is you'll be able to play Xbox games with no additional hardware, except for a controller. This is a very big deal because it opens up a potentially much larger audience for Xbox: people who don't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a console but still want to play games on their TV. Additionally, Microsoft announced that it is "exploring new subscription offerings" for Game Pass that will allow "more players around the world can experience the most immersive and fun games across devices, geographies, and financial realities." The company did not share any specifics about this, however, but clearly the aim is to get more subscribers. In another effort to expand Xbox, Microsoft is working with telecom providers on "new purchasing models" like Xbox All Access that allow users to get a console (with Game Pass) for a monthly price instead of paying more up front. This is the model that has been popular and widespread for smartphones for many years. Another way Xbox is expanding is by launching Game Pass in more regions. The service will come to Australia, Brazil, Mexico, and Japan later in 2021. Irish - Do you think this will take off or do you think traditional gamers will balk at this? The goal, as the company explained to Mashable, is to help newsletter writers better leverage their existing Twitter followers in an effort to grow their subscriber bases. The "subscribe" button, which will live prominently on the profile pages of those who choose to turn on the feature, will be available to anyone with a Revue [https://www.getrevue.co/] account (sorry, Substackers). The move shows the continued emphasis Twitter is placing on newsletters following its January acquisition [https://blog.twitter.com/en_us/topics/company/2021/making-twitter-a-better-home-for-writers.html] of the subscription newsletter service. Writers can use Revue to generate free or paid subscription newsletters. Twitter takes a 5 percent cut of the latter. House Lawmakers Say They Want to Break Up With Big Tech [https://gizmodo.com/house-lawmakers-say-they-want-to-break-up-with-big-tech-1847083012] A bipartisan coalition in the U.S. House of Representatives has introduced new antitrust legislation aimed at prying open Big Tech’s death grip on our lives. If the lawmakers get their way, it could mean that some of America’s largest tech companies will actually be broken up. The bundle of five new bills, introduced by legislators in the antitrust subcommittee, comes at a time when Americans increasingly agree that the “Big Four” (Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Apple) and others of their ilk are way, way too big. “Right now, unregulated tech monopolies have too much power over our economy,” said Antitrust Subcommittee Chairman David N. Cicilline in a statement. “They are in a unique position to pick winners and losers, destroy small businesses, raise prices on consumers, and put folks out of work. Our agenda will level the playing field and ensure the wealthiest, most powerful tech monopolies play by the same rules as the rest of us” and would also prevent such a company from owning other businesses that create “conflicts of interest.” Stump - How do you hope/foresee this shaking out? As told to Metro [https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/08/rick-and-morty-movie-will-happen-confirms-producer-14734913/], Rick & Morty producer, Scott Marder, says that a movie will happen at some point. Marder sat down with writer Dan Harmon and actress, Spencer Grammer (the voice of Summer), for a roundtable interview. The trio discussed the possibilities of making their show jump to the big screen. While a Rick & Morty movie [https://screenrant.com/zack-snyder-rick-morty-movie-comedy-interest/] has not been officially confirmed, nor is it in any form of production, creator Justin Roiland has fueled the rumors by saying that it's more a question of "when" and not "if." During the roundtable interview, Grammer explained her idea of how a full-length film could work by offering up the possibility of a "3D interactive movie" or even a 4D style flick like the ones featured in theme parks (recall Shrek 4D at Universal Studios). Irish - Does this series really have anything to gain from a feature film? I would rather Dan Harmon finally make the Community movie. The livestreaming service is testing Follower Emotes that let broadcasters hand out up to five emotes just for following their channels. You can only use the emotes in the channels where you earned them, unlike subscription emotes, but this lets you show support for a streamer without having to use generic or third-party icons. Certain Affiliates and Partners will get these follow-specific emotes as part of a beta. The feedback from the test should lead to a wider rollout later in 2021. There will be an extra motivation to pay, mind you. Twitch is introducing Animated Emotes for Tier 1 subscribers that, as the name implies, add a dash of movement. Creators will have up to five animated icons they can either produce from scratch or quickly build using canned animations like shaking, spinning and "rave." Partners will have access in weeks (including big names like Seum), while Affiliates should see them by the end of 2021. And yes, Twitch is aware they could be dangerous or annoying for some viewers — you'll have the option to turn them off. Channel owners will have an easier time managing emotes through a new Library that provides control over every approved emote, whether or not it's active. A streamer can retire or revive emotes without having to seek re-approval or otherwise walk through the upload process. This could be particularly helpful for holidays and other times when themed emotes are popular. The Library will be available to all Affiliates and Partners, but access will be phased in over the course of a few months. Twitch said the emote updates would help mark its 10th anniversary, and that there was "so much more planned" for the milestone. Don't be surprised if you see other sizeable changes, even if Twitch has already announced a few notable examples in advance. Angel - This seems like good news all around! Not just for viewers and streamers but for emote artists. Whats your take on this rollout. GeorgeNotFound's scuffed hot tub stream shatters Pokimane's Twitch record [https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/georgenotfounds-scuffed-hot-tub-stream-shatters-pokimanes-twitch-record-1587498/] First from Dexerto Minecraft YouTuber and Twitch megastar GeorgeNotFound shocked fans with an extremely scuffed hot tub stream that ended up shattering a viewership record previously held by Pokimane. On June 2, GeorgeNotFound took to Twitter to announce he was having an “epic hot tub stream” and fans absolutely ate it up. things got off to a super rocky start, as a hole in the tub started causing water to leak out of the pool and into his house. Despite this, he persevered and eventually got into the tub, albeit with clothes on. Crazily, this stunt resulted in over 350,000 viewers, demolishing Pokimane and OfflineTV’s hot tub stream record [https://www.dexerto.com/entertainment/pokimane-hot-tub-stream-breaks-twitch-record-as-offlinetv-bottles-bath-water-1573690/] that pulled 100K. Throughout the stream, George would spin a wheel with a bunch of humiliating tasks on it and whichever it landed on he would perform. These included the ever awkward “change into a new outfit” task, which poked fun at female streamers who often switch up their bikinis throughout a broadcast to even drinking the water in the tub. While the whole broadcast didn’t end up lasting too long, it did create some pretty entertaining moments, kicked off some new merch sales and broke the previous hot tub viewership record. Rebel - This is obviously a pretty funny take on the hot tub meta. How do you feel about the overall shift to this type of stream? Twitch Manages To Get Out Some 'Disappointment' With Music Industry Over Latest Round Of DMCA Claims [https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20210603/11085146924/twitch-manages-to-get-out-some-disappointment-with-music-industry-over-latest-round-dmca-claims.shtml] Twitch recently sent out an email that it had received roughly 1,000 additional DMCA takedown notices, almost all of them again over music playing in the background of recorded Twitch videos. Said Twitch in its email on Friday: “We are committed to being more transparent with you about DMCA. We recently received a batch of DMCA take down notifications with about 1,000 individual claims from music publishers. “All of the claims are for the VODs and the vast majority target streamers listening to background music while playing video games or IRL streaming. Based on the number of claims we believe these rights holders used automated tools to scan and identify copyrighted music in creators VODs and clips, which means that they will likely send further notices." Of course they will. Twitch invited them to when it showed itself to be a willing partner in treating Twitch creators like a testing ground for DMCA cluster bombs. There are platforms out there that manage to both treat DMCA requests seriously and also provide some protection, or at least communication, to its users. A few tools for creators aside, Twitch's inaction on behalf of its creative community amounted essentially to greenlighting ever more DMCA takedowns from the music industry. Any surprise at that by the Amazon-owned company is laughable. But this neutered, throwaway line from that same email is simply maddening. “This is our first such contact from the music publishing industry (there can be several owners for a single piece of music) and we are disappointed that they decided to send takedowns when we were willing and ready to speak to them about solutions.” Jacqie - Twitch acting like they are willing to talk here is kind of laughable right? They went ahead before with their music service and didnt engage the industry then to meet their needs. Do you feel like they are being truthful here or just playing a bit of the victim to avoid some backlash? Tech/Gaming News - Brought to you by The Guy from the sneak commercial OFFICIALLY ROGUE Guardians of the Galaxy game to be announced during E3 2021 – Explica .co [https://www.explica.co/guardians-of-the-galaxy-game-to-be-announced-during-e3-2021.html] Four years have passed since Kotaku reported that Eidos Montreal, a subsidiary of Square Enix and creators of the Deus Ex video game saga, was working on a Guardians of the Galaxy title. Although the information was forgotten due to the lack of official information – or more leaks – it seems that we will finally see the game during E3 2021. And it is that Square Enix announced that it will hold an event to present its next news. Even more important, at the digital conference the presence of Eidos Montreal is confirmed with a World Premiere. That is, the announcement of a completely new project. If the above clues weren’t enough, we should point out that Jason Schreier, a Bloomberg journalist and one of the most trusted sources in the industry, all but confirmed it. Now, Schreier’s words have great importance because it was he himself who signed the Kotaku report in 2017. Before joining the ranks of Bloomberg, the aforementioned journalist was part of the aforementioned video game website. On the other hand, we must not forget that Square Enix and Marvel have previously worked on Marvel’s Avengers, a proposal that unfortunately disappointed the vast majority. Rebel - First off are you more of DC or Marvel fan? Are you apprehensive at all for this title due to the way Avengers failed to meet many peoples expectations? The Twitter Blue subscription service starts rolling out Thursday [https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/3/22464291/twitter-blue-subscription-service-canada-australia-undo-reader-mode] From the Verge, Twitter has officially announced Twitter Blue, a paid subscription service that offers access to new features like undoing tweets and viewing threads in an easier to digest “Reader Mode.” Starting Thursday, it will roll out first in Canada and Australia, where the subscription will cost $3.49 CAD or $4.49 AUD per month, respectively. We already had a good idea of what features to expect from Twitter Blue thanks to sleuthing from app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, but now Twitter has detailed everything the service includes. A new undo send feature gives you the option of retracting your tweets before they actually go live, and you can set a timer for undoing your tweets that can last up to 30 seconds. A Bookmark Folders feature lets you group saved tweets to make them easier to find later. “Reader Mode” lets you keep up with threads by “turning them into easy-to-read text” and mashing together tweets into one page. Other Twitter Blue features are purely aesthetic: it adds new color theme options as well as the ability to change the color of Twitter’s app icon. Offering a paid subscription service is a significant change to Twitter’s business model that the company has been considering for some time. Previously, the company has relied mainly on advertising for its revenue, but intense competition from Facebook and Snapchat’s ad businesses, and pressure from investors has pushed it to explore new sources of revenue. Angel - Are any of these services something you would consider paying for? Now You Can Mine Crypto From Your Norton Antivirus App [https://gizmodo.com/now-you-can-mine-crypto-from-your-norton-antivirus-app-1847026698] Ever wondered why it was impossible to shut down Norton antivirus? Well the time has come for an answer. Norton was preparing us to mine Ethereum. From gizmodo First spotted by BleepingComputer, the new Norton Crypto feature is being added to the Norton 360 antivirus app this week as an opt-in early adopter program designed to help people more easily get into crypto mining. And with the world of crypto mining littered with traps and scams, Norton Crypto does seem to offer a few advantages compared to a more DIY approach. Because many antivirus apps flag crypto-mining apps as malware, Norton claims that by building Norton Crypto into Norton 360, users can enjoy increased safety by being able to mine Ethereum without having to disable their antivirus software. Unfortunately, while Norton Crypto relies on your computer’s GPU to mine Ethereum, it’s unclear if each computer will be mining on its own (which is somewhat unlikely given the difficult of solving a hash with a single PC), or potentially joining a shared mining pool made up of other Norton Crypto users (in which Norton may or may not be taking a cut). And with Ethereum set to switch from a proof-of-work to a proof-of-stake validation method in the not-too-distant future, it’s hard to say how Norton Crypto will be affected. But for those who’ve been considering dipping their toes into the crypto world and don’t mind installing a potentially intrusive antivirus app, Norton Crypto could be an interesting way to learn. Jacqie - Do you see this as a positive or a negative for the crypto space? FootNotes- Other Notable News -E3’s all digital showcase is set to take place this week starting on June 12th. Entertainment News - Discovery announces new name of WarnerMedia merger: Warner Bros. Discovery [https://www.theverge.com/2021/6/1/22448140/warner-bros-discovery-warnermedia-new-name-merger-att?utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter] In our first story a media conglomerate gets original with their new name. From the verge Discovery is merging with WarnerMedia, and it’s now announced [https://ir.corporate.discovery.com/news-and-events/financial-news/financial-news-details/2021/Discovery-Inc.-Announces-Warner-Bros.-Discovery-As-New-Name-For-Proposed-Leading-Global-Entertainment-Company/default.aspx] a new name for the combined company: Warner Bros. Discovery. According to The Wall Street Journal [https://www.wsj.com/articles/warner-bros-discovery-will-be-name-of-media-colossus-formed-in-merger-11622567102], the name was first revealed during a staff meeting today. The merger was announced last month [https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/17/22439964/at-t-warnermedia-discovery-merger-spin-off]. AT&T said it would spin off WarnerMedia — the entertainment giant containing Warner Bros., HBO, DC Comics, and CNN, among many others — and that Discovery would take over the new company. But they didn’t have a new name prepared on the day the deal was announced. AT&T and Discovery expect the merger to wrap up in mid-2022, assuming it clears regulatory hurdles. AT&T shareholders will own 71 percent of the new company, so it’s really more like WarnerMedia is being freed from AT&T and picking up Discovery along the way. The hope is that the combined entertainment giant can become an even bigger player in streaming [https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/19/22444031/warnermedia-discovery-merger-hbo-max-streaming-giant] than the two are independently today. WarnerMedia runs HBO Max, which has been fairly successful so far, though it remains smaller than Netflix and Disney Plus. Rebel - It looks like they are looking to grow their streaming properties here. Do you think we need more separate streaming entertainment or would you like to see more consolidation to 1 or 2 platforms? 'John Wick 4' Adds Donnie Yen To Upcoming Keanu Reeves Film [https://heroichollywood.com/john-wick-donnie-yen-keanu-reeves-film/] Keanu Reeves’s upcoming action, John Wick 4, has added martial arts superstar Donnie Yen to the cast of the movie. According to a new report, martial arts superstar Donnie Yen has joined the cast of the upcoming Keanu Reeves film. Donnie Yen is one of the most successful actors from the east with numerous acting credits in his native country including the Ip Man films and numerous other action films. In the United States, the actor is perhaps best known for roles in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, and the live-action remake of Mulan. In the film Donnie Yen is said to play an old friend of John Wick, sharing the same history and many of the same enemies. On the casting, director Chat Stahelski seemed happy to have the martial arts icon on board for his film: “We are very lucky to have Donnie Yen join the franchise. I am looking forward to working with him in this exciting new role.” Angel - Are you a John Wick or IP man fan? How do you feel about the casting? Zack Snyder Would Cast New Actors For 'The Dark Knight Returns' Movie [https://heroichollywood.com/zack-snyder-dark-knight-returns-new-actors-movie/] Justice League director Zack Snyder revealed that he’d cast new actors if he directed a cinematic version of The Dark Knight Returns. Although it seems like Zack Snyder’s days working with Warner Bros. are over, the director has always maintained that directing a live-action adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns is a dream project for him. He previously explained that he’s obsessed with the idea and that he’d do it as a one-off movie rather than spin a franchise out of it. But in a more recent interview Snyder opened up about how he’d approach the story. Snyder confessed that he’d cast new actors to play Batman and Superman in The Dark Knight Returns instead of bringing back Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, just to make sure it was entirely its own thing. He also compared the vision he has for the graphic novel to his take on Watchmen, saying it would be really frame-accurate.
