In which Wulf accompanies a diplomatic embassy to Normandy bearing King Harold’s firm refusal to Duke William’s demands, and afterwards returns to London where he resolves to guard the king against unseen dangers amidst rising suspicions of treachery. With vigilant aid from a loyal apprentice, Wulf sets about watching a newly arrived Norman who may be entwined in plots against Harold’s life.

In which the young thane Wulf receives high commendation for his daring capture and steadfast defence of a Welsh fortress, marking a turning point in the campaign and earning the esteem and guidance of the noble Earl Harold. As unrest stirs in the north, Wulf accompanies Harold through turbulent negotiations and observes the strains of loyalty and rivalry among England's leading earls, while finding solace and counsel in the gracious hospitality of Edith of the Swan-neck.

Wulf the Saxon Chapter XIII - Harold The King

In which Wulf is entrusted with a secret message from Edith, revealing her presence and her heart-wrenching decision to sacrifice her happiness for the peace of England, compelling Harold to sever their bond for the good of the realm. The Witenagemot convenes amidst the king’s failing health, and with solemn ceremony Harold is chosen and crowned king, accepting his heavy burden with a mournful resolve, mindful always of Edith’s sacrifice and the future welfare of the nation.

Wulf the Saxon Chapter XI - The Secret Passage

In which Wulf and his men fortify the captured castle against Welsh attempts to retake it, discovering a secret passage and repelling fierce assaults with resolute courage and clever defence. The siege reaches a turning point as they negotiate with the enemy’s leaders, whose resistance begins to wane in the face of overwhelming odds and the prospect of mercy.

Wulf the Saxon Chapter X - Porthwyn

In which Wulf and his men stealthily approach a strong fortress and ingeniously construct ladders to scale its formidable walls, surprising the scant garrison and taking possession of the castle amidst fierce resistance. They then prepare to defend their hard-won prize against the inevitable return of a great Welsh force, organising their troops and fortifications with cautious resolve.
