episode A Young Voice Fighting for Change for Type One Diabetes at 9 Years Old Constanza cover

Beskrivelse

At just 9 years old, Constanza’s life changed forever after being rushed into intensive care with diabetic ketoacidosis. What was first believed to be a COVID complication became a Type 1 Diabetes diagnosis — one that would require daily insulin, constant monitoring, discipline, and learning how to hold life in her hands at an age when most children are simply learning how to be kids. But what amazes me most about Constanza is not just her strength through chronic illness… it’s who she has chosen to become because of it. 💙 Now only 13 years old and living in Cancún, México, Constanza is already using her voice to advocate for children and adolescents in her community. She currently serves as the Technical Secretary of the SIPINNA Advisory Council for Children and Adolescents in Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, while also helping work toward a diabetes census and education program in her municipality to create greater awareness, access, and support for families navigating Type 1 Diabetes. And somehow — in the middle of all of that — she continues showing up with grace, courage, intelligence, discipline, and kindness beyond her years. This episode moved me deeply. Constanza reminds us that resilience has no age. That leadership can begin in pain. And that even the hardest diagnoses do not get to define the fullness of who we are. Thank you, Constanza, for trusting The Resilience Files: Unlocked with your story. Your voice matters. Your advocacy matters. And I know your story is going to help so many people around the world feel less alone. 🌎✨ 🎙️ Holding Life in My Hands — now part of Season 2 of The Resilience Files: Unlocked. 📍Cancún, México 💙 Type 1 Diabetes Advocate 🎤 Youth Leader ⛸️ Athlete 🌎 Changemaker Follow & support Constanza: @constanza.guillen Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2439957/support] 📅 New episodes every Tuesday and Thursday 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts 📱 Follow us on Instagram: @theresiliencefiless

Episode 12: There Is No Normal: Christy Barongan on Depression, Self-Compassion & Healing

In this powerful episode of The Resilience Files: Unlocked, host Carrie Bernans sits down with Christy Barongan to discuss a lifetime spent helping others while quietly battling her own struggles with depression, anxiety, trauma, and self-doubt. Growing up in a family deeply affected by mental illness, Christy became the caretaker, the listener, and the helper. Yet beneath the surface, she carried her own pain for decades. Through therapy, difficult seasons of depression, questions around diagnosis, medication, and ultimately radical self-compassion, Christy began a journey toward healing and authenticity. What started as a personal mental health blog became a lifeline—not only for herself, but for countless others who finally felt seen, understood, and less alone. In this episode, Christy shares: ✨ What it was like growing up as “the helper” in a family struggling with mental illness ✨ Her experience navigating depression, anxiety, and shame ✨ The role therapy played in her healing journey ✨ How vulnerability transformed her life and relationships ✨ Why self-compassion is one of the most powerful tools for resilience ✨ The truth behind her message: there is no normal This conversation is a reminder that healing isn’t about becoming someone else—it’s about giving yourself permission to be fully, authentically you. If you’ve ever felt broken, different, or like you’re carrying struggles no one can see, this episode is for you. #TheResilienceFiles [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/theresiliencefiles] #MentalHealth [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/mentalhealth] #SelfCompassion [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/selfcompassion] #DepressionAwareness [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/depressionawareness] #HealingJourney [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/healingjourney] #Resilience [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/resilience] #PersonalGrowth [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/personalgrowth] #TraumaRecovery [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/traumarecovery] #MentalWellness [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/mentalwellness] #Podcast [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/podcast] #CarrieBernans [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/carriebernans] #ChristyBarongan [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/christybarongan] #ThereIsNoNormal [https://www.youtube.com/hashtag/thereisnonormal] Support the show [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2439957/support] 📅 New episodes every Tuesday and Thursday 🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts 📱 Follow us on Instagram: @theresiliencefiless
