I want to tell you something that might completely change the way you look at youth hockey. The coach already knows. Maybe not everything. Coaches aren't perfect. We make mistakes. But the very best coaches aren't evaluating what parents think they're evaluating. And that's where the misunderstanding begins. Most parents watch one thing. Their own child. Coaches? We're watching everything else.

When Parents Want It More Than Their Kids

Today's episode might be the hardest one I've ever recorded. Not because it's controversial. Because it's personal. I've been around hockey for over 60 years. I've played it. I've coached it. I've lived it. I've spent nearly 40 years running hockey conditioning camps, and I've watched thousands of young players chase the dream. I've seen kids make Junior. I've seen kids earn college opportunities. I've seen kids play professionally. But I've also watched something else happen... Something heartbreaking.

How Do You Know They Really Love the Game?

Last episode, I asked a question that struck a nerve with a lot of hockey parents. “Does your child truly love hockey” ... or are they simply playing because you love hockey? How do I know if my son or daughter genuinely loves this game? How do I know if they're chasing their dream... or living mine?
