Acerca de Africa’s Youth Unfiltered

Whether at home or abroad, the social, political, and economic aspects of our homeland generally go untouched by the next generation of Africans across the globe. Hosted by yours truly, Christina Uwana, I hope to encourage us to get comfortable with these seemingly uncomfortable conversations. Join me as we mix a little banter with real-life issues and potential solutions that we face as a continent. New episodes are available once a week, and with them, I implore you all to give me your thoughts, opinions, arguments, and critique. Stay tuned!!

How Africa Can Revolutionize (overview)

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first episode of our new series: How Africa Can Revolutionize. In this series I hope to dive into the steps I believe would be necessary in achieving our dreams of our countries becoming fully developed nations--- steps that are achievable, but won't happen overnight. This episode is more of an overview, but stay tuned for the following podcasts where I dive deeper into each step, and bring on guests to talk about what this future would look like, and what we as African people would have to do to get there. **small correction: There are 54 countries in Africa, 52 of which claim to be democracies. The two that do not identify as democracies are Eswatini (absolute monarchy) and Eritrea (one-party authoritarian state w/ no elections).

Developmental Disabilities in African Households ft. Ms. Elizabeth

Happy Sunday, everyone! In today’s episode, we’re tackling a somewhat sensitive topic: What African Parents of Children with Disabilities Need to Hear. I’m sure we all know at least one family member who has an intellectual or developmental disability—whether it's autism or another condition. Unfortunately, there is often a stigma surrounding these individuals, which is why I believe it's so important to shed light on this issue. Join Ms. Elizabeth and me as we discuss the stigmas, stereotypes, and mindsets of many African parents. More importantly, we’ll explore how we as a community can shift our mindset to better support and bring out the best in our loved ones with disabilities. Sit back and enjoy this episode—only here on the AYU Podcast!
