In this Peru travel guide, I show what it actually takes to reach the Amazon Rainforest—from long layovers and arriving in Iquitos to boarding a riverboat and checking into my jungle lodge. Most videos start once people are already in the jungle. But getting here is part of the adventure. Along the way I try fresh sugar cane juice, explore local life near the Amazon River, talk with my guide about common tourist misconceptions, and take my first boat ride into the rainforest. Then I give a full tour of what staying at an Amazon jungle lodge is really like—including the room, food, water, electricity, WiFi, and first impressions. This is Day 1 of my Amazon Rainforest Peru adventure series. #Peru #AmazonRainforest #PeruTravel #AmazonJungle #Iquitos #PeruvianAmazon #AmazonRiver #TravelVlog #PeruVlog #JungleLodge #AdventureTravel #SouthAmerica #Rainforest #AmazonTrip #TravelGuide #AlexTravelsFar #JungleAdventure #PeruGuide #AmazonTravel #TravelFar

I Explored a Remote Village in the Amazon Jungle

From river travel and traditional homes to jungle adventures and local culture, this remote Amazon village experience was one of the highlights of my Peru trip. Want my Google Maps links? Most tourists who visit the Amazon never get the chance to experience a village like this. I actually had to specially request this visit from my guide, and it ended up becoming one of the most memorable days of my entire trip. We travel by boat down the Amazon River to the village of San Juan de Yanayacu, where I sit down with local residents, tour their homes and kitchens, learn how they cook and live, and ask questions about daily life in one of the most remote places I've ever visited. Along the way, I interview a local fisherman, meet community leaders, learn about education and conservation in the Amazon, browse handmade souvenirs, and even get invited into family homes. Then things take an unexpected turn when I end up playing soccer with local kids who completely destroy me—and somehow one of them becomes my cameraman for the day. What stood out most wasn't the wildlife or the adventure. It was the kindness, hospitality, and sense of community. Before leaving, we gave the villagers an additional tip to thank them for welcoming us into their world, and they insisted on sending us back with a giant bag of fresh jungle fruit. If you're interested in authentic travel, local culture, and experiences beyond the typical tourist trail, this is the Amazon you've probably never seen. 📍 Location: San Juan de Yanayacu, Peruvian Amazon #AmazonRainforest #AmazonJungle #Peru #Iquitos #AmazonVillage #PeruvianAmazon #TravelPeru #JungleLife #RemoteVillage #SouthAmerica #AdventureTravel #AlexTravelsFar #AmazonRiver #CulturalTravel #TravelDocumentary #VillageLife #RainforestAdventure #AuthenticTravel #TravelVlog #ExplorePeru

In this episode, I sit down with travel storyteller, podcast host, and author Melissa Rodway to discuss the realities of long-term travel, travel fatigue, travel ego, meaningful connections, and why some of the most important lessons from travel happen far away from famous landmarks. We dive into the pressure travelers put on themselves, the impact of social media on travel expectations, why it's okay to slow down, and whether travel really changes us—or simply reveals who we already are. Melissa also shares the story behind her new book, The People You Meet, which grew from a four-month journey across Southeast Asia and fifteen years of reflection. If you've ever felt burned out while traveling, questioned why you travel, or wondered what actually makes a trip meaningful, this conversation is for you. #Travel #TravelPodcast #MelissaRodway #ThePeopleYouMeet #TravelFatigue #TravelEgo #SoloTravel #LongTermTravel #TravelTips #TravelStories #TravelInspiration #AdventureTravel #SlowTravel #HumanConnection #TravelCommunity #TravelWriter #TravelInterview #TravelLife #Backpacking #WorldTravel #TravelAdvice #TravelCulture #AlexTravelsFar #Podcast #TravelBook #MeaningfulTravel #TravelMindset #TravelExperiences #TravelStorytelling #ExploreMore

Armed with headlamps, bug spray, and two local guides, I head into the jungle after dark to search for caimans, snakes, sloths, giant spiders, and other wildlife that only comes alive at night. What starts as a simple jungle walk quickly turns into one of the wildest experiences of my trip. Every glowing reflection could be a spider, every sound in the trees could be something moving overhead, and along the riverbank we come face-to-face with a six-foot caiman lurking in the darkness. In this video you'll see: • A nighttime jungle trek in the Peruvian Amazon • Leaf-cutter ants carrying leaves through the rainforest • A rare snail-eating snake encounter • A wild sloth sleeping high in the trees • Giant spiders hiding along the trail • A six-foot caiman spotted after dark • What it's really like exploring the Amazon at night #AmazonRainforest #Peru #AmazonJungle #PeruTravel #TravelVlog #AmazonAdventure #Wildlife #JungleHike #NightHike #Rainforest #SouthAmerica #Nature #AdventureTravel #Caiman #Sloth #Snake #Spiders #Iquitos #PeruvianAmazon #BucketListTravel
