About Art, in all the wrong places

Characters who can't always be trusted. Because they often don't see the difference between sound and noise, between countryside and abandoned building, between fiction and reality. I explore sound, speak languages and talk to strangers. This is my work. AIR Member. www.cristinamarras.com

Your weather report [for Audio Playground]

What would be like to read the weather report in a place with no weather? And where no one is listening anyway? A one-minute weather report from the Moon.  Part of my ongoing series of weird public announcements: * PSA Going for broke [https://wrongplaces.transistor.fm/episodes/psa-going-for-broke-sonic-dash]  Created for Audio Playground [https://www.audioplayground.xyz/hello], a fun audio assignment project run by Sarah Geis [https://invisible.institute/sarah-geis]. episode PSA Going for broke [Sonic Dash] artwork

PSA Going for broke [Sonic Dash]

A public service announcement about gambling harm, aimed at migrant women. The presenter knows the script. She's less sure about the conclusion. Part of my ongoing series of weird public announcements. Created for Sonic Dash [https://www.silver-nyc.com/sonicdash], a biannual 48-hour audio competition run by Silver Sound (New York): an original piece, under two minutes, made entirely from scratch in 48 hours in response to an emailed prompt. No archival material, no AI, no pre-existing music. Summer 2026 prompt: Going for broke. episode Feet [60 sec. radio] artwork

Feet [60 sec. radio]

A personal reflection on bodies, loss, and the things we do without thinking. Starting from an everyday habit, walking barefoot at home, the narration moves toward a family story that reframes everything that came before it.  Quiet, direct, and with somewhere unexpected to go. This piece was created for 60 Sec Radio [https://60secondesradio.com/], an international radio art competition and broadcast platform founded by Boris Chassagne, launched annually on February 13 (UNESCO World Radio Day). The sole constraint: works must be exactly 60 seconds. Over its 11 editions it has gathered more than 2,000 works from artists in 74 countries working in 30+ languages, distributed to roughly 50 FM, DAB, and web radio stations across the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, plus festivals and public events. Here you can listen to the 2026 winners [https://60secondesradio.com/oeuvres-2026/] and to all the other entries.

[https://www.cristinamarras.com/article/99-koga-miyata]

episode Lagoon [Columbia Radio Race] 🦩 artwork

Lagoon [Columbia Radio Race] 🦩

The salt is blinding. The provisions are half gone. There is no turning back. Lagoon picks up where Bitter Water [https://wrongplaces.transistor.fm/episodes/bitter-water-water-library] ends: the vault is behind her, the liquid expanse is ahead, and the white formations on the horizon may or may not be what the Elders described. The surface is hostile: quicksand beneath the salt crust, acid water, beasts adapted to sulfureous ponds. She keeps moving. Above the white formations, the sky is doing something she has no word for. The Elders said the phoenicotterius stood still as statues in the Molentargius Lagoon, long necks bent to the water. So beautiful you felt a shiver in your bones. She needs to feel that shiver. Lagoon is a solo voice, created, spoken, produced, edited and mixed by M. Cristina Marras for the Columbia Radio Race. Flamingo Lore * Flamingo Rising · An Audio RPG by Sardinian Imaginary Games  [https://www.cristinamarras.com/article/225-flamingo-rising-an-audio-rpg-by-sardinian-imaginary-games-audio-flux-07] * Bitter Water [https://wrongplaces.transistor.fm/episodes/bitter-water-water-library] Flamingo Lore is an ongoing body of work set in a dystopian Sardinia where the surface is salt, acid water, and UV, and humans live underground. The world is consistent across pieces, but each work is an independent entry point, a different voice, a different moment in the same collapsed future. Across the work, flamingos shift roles: they appear as myth and salvation, as creatures of impossible beauty the survivors risk their lives to find, and (in other corners of the universe) as rulers and torturers in an improbable RPG, wielding power over what remains of human life. I have always been fascinated by the apparent fragility but effective strength of flamingos, the only living creatures that can drink water close to boiling point, among other things. I live in Cagliari [https://www.sardegnaturismo.it/en/itineraries/birdwatching-kingdom-pink-flamingos], surrounded by pink flamingos.
