episode The Three Poor Players Play with Immediacy artwork

The Three Poor Players Play with Immediacy

In this episode The Three Poor Players start, what will certainly be, an ongoing exploration of “immediacy” in the work.  In his book WHAT ACTORS DO, Mike Alfreds describes this search for spontaneity as one of seven paradoxes that actors continually wrestle with. Today, John works with two young artists and experiments with one way in which actors could encounter a text for the first time.  Along the way we look at how we can begin connecting the cues we get from our partners, the text and our own bodies, we discover that the whole process of acting can be a little less scary, and Jason tells us about the greatest moment of student acting he’s ever seen. In Chris’s words: “This is FUN!” (The Three Poor Players was conceived, created, and produced by Jason Pasqua, Chris Will, and John O'Hagan. episode The Three Poor Players Play With Time artwork

The Three Poor Players Play With Time

We start off our full series by exploring the ability to manipulate time! In this first full episode from The Three Poor Players, Chris and his student Kara Reynolds introduce us to a simple yet powerful way to bend time in such a way as to give the actor a whole host of options.  Who wouldn't want to get in on that action? Our thanks to Kara Reynolds for her most excellent work and, as always to the Bankside Arts Collective [https://www.banksiderep.com] for hosting The Three Poor Players. Inside the Dumb Waiter Ep. 2 - Riley Capp

Welcome back to the Bankside Arts Collective podcast and the second "Inside The Dumb Waiter" episode! It’s opening week for The Dumb Waiter and today we get to speak at length with Riley Capp, who is playing Gus in our production.  Before we get to today’s episode I just want to remind everyone that the first full episode of Three Poor Players will be dropping next week - The Three Poor Players Play with “Time”.  From there we should be  on our regular schedule of a new episode every month. We’ve got some great guests coming onto the podcast - so please, if you haven’t already, go ahead and subscribe.  The Bankside Repertory Theatre’s production of The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter opens tomorrow -October 2nd, and in this episode of “Inside The Dumb Waiter” we sit down with actor Riley Capp for a very thoughtful and engaging conversation about his journey as an actor and some of the really wonderful things he is bringing to his work as a whole, and this production in particular. We hope you enjoy these "behind the scenes" looks and we certainly hope to see you Oct 2-5, at 7:30pm, in the Davis Black Box Theatre, (located on the Principia College campus, in Elsah, IL) for The Dumb Waiter.  Principia College is located at 1 Maybeck Place, in Elsah, IL. episode The Three Poor Players Series Preview artwork

The Three Poor Players Series Preview

We’re really excited to finally be launching this new series  - The Three Poor Players.  This episode today gives Jason, Chris, and me a chance to introduce ourselves and give kind of a 30,000 foot view of what we hope this series will be and do. Each of us are theatre makers  - actors, directors and teachers - with nearly 50 years of experiecne between the 3 of us. And over the years, regardless of how far apart we are geogrpahically, we have stayed in touch and continued to bounce ideas about the work off of each other -  and this podcast is our latest hair-brained idea. I want to call particular attention to something Chris shares in this preview episode - a quote from Ira Glass - and, while Chris uses it to illustrate a different point  - I think it also speaks to what we’re launching with this. Our thanks to the Bankside Arts Collective [https://www.banksiderep.com] for hosting The Three Poor Players - we hope you come back for more! Enjoy!
