#16 Mrs. Steven Rudy with Mark McGuinn-Bobby Boyd-Jeff Moseley

Welcome back to Behind the Shedd!  In episode 16 Harold and Russ sit down with Mark McGuinn, Jeff Mosely, and Bobby E. Boyd.  This trio of friends have seen all sides of the music business in Nashville.  Sit back and relax and enjoy today's stories.  This is Behind the Shedd. More about today's guests: Mark  McGuinn was signed to VFR Records in 2001, a newly formed independent record label, which released his first album, Mark McGuinn, in May that year.  Initially, the label had planned to release "That's a Plan" as the album's first single. After a disc jockey at KPLX [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KPLX] in Dallas [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas], Texas, began playing "Mrs. Steven Rudy", another track from the album, other nearby stations soon followed suit. Due to the reaction the song was receiving in this market, the label released it as McGuinn's first single, with "That's a Plan" on the B-side [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-side]. Upon the release of "Mrs. Steven Rudy", McGuinn was considered a "dark horse [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_horse]" on the country music scene, due in part to his jazz background and beatnik [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatnik] image, which were considered outside the norms of country radio.  Mrs. Steven Rudy" was a top ten hit on the Billboard [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_(magazine)] country music charts, and the highest-selling single on the country singles sales charts for five consecutive weeks.  His album entered the Top Country Albums [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Country_Albums] chart at number 18, setting a new record for the highest entry on that chart for the first release from an independent label. Bobby E. Boyd (aka 'Bandera Bob') is a Grammy Award Winning Songwriter with his most recent hit "Bless The Broken Road" (co-written with Marcus Hummon and Jeff Hanna) recorded by 'Rascal Flatts' . The song was No.1 for 6 weeks in 2005 and won a Grammy for Country Song of The Year in Feb. 2006 . It was also the most played song of the year , NSAI Song of the Year and has been awarded a Million-Air Certification by BMI (the 3rd for Boyd) . The Album - 'Feels Like Today' , driven by "Broken Road" , "Fast Cars & Freedom" and "Sarabeth (Skin)" , was the top selling Country Album of 2005 . Boyd's other hits include the No.1 song "In Pictures" by the group 'Alabama' (co-written with Joe Doyle) and the Top 10 song "Working Man's Phd." by 'Aaron Tippin' (co-written with Tippin and Philip Douglas) . These songs are also Million-Air Award Winners from BMI . Boyd has had other cuts and chart songs with such Artists as Martina McBride , Mark McGuinn , Linda Davis , Deryl Dodd , Melodie Crittendon & many others .  (From last.fm [http://last.fm]) Jeff “The Mule” Moseley is a legendary character around Music Row.  From artist development, song writing, publishing, and every other form of music business, Jeff has been involved.  He was the president and owner of Electric Mule Music BMI - Neon Mule ASCAP. Managed Tim McGraw and helped get his record deal. Signed Mark McGuinn to Neon Mule and cut 10 songs as writer and artist.  Sold to VFR Records with Harold Shedd.  Won 2 ASCAP awards with Mark McGuinn.  Jeff still owns and manages music companies working with young writers in Texas.   Behind the Shedd podcast is a weekly podcast series available on all major podcast platforms.  This podcast relives music row memories from Nashvilles most successful independent music producer, Harold Shedd.   Harold owned and operated the Music Mill Studio on Roy Acuff Place in Nashville and was later head of Mercury Records Nashville.  Created by Wm.
