'Babies can’t read clocks’ - in conversation with Special Guest Nancy Mohrbacher

Sarah and Maria are honoured to be joined by NancyMohrbacher, an LLL Leader, IBCLC, FILCA. Nancy fell in love with breastfeeding while nursing her three sons. She began working as a volunteer peer supporter in 1982 and became board-certified as a lactation consultant in 1991. Nancy’s mission is to simplify life for new families—many ofwhom, without realising it, make breastfeeding more complicated than it needs to be. She grew a private practice in Chicago, worked for a majorbreast-pump company, and contributed to a national corporate lactation program. Nancy speaks at events around the world and supportsbreastfeeding education both online and in hospitals. She has also written a range of books and resources, many of which are popular in our local groups’ libraries. In 2008, the International Lactation Consultant Associationofficially recognized Nancy’s contributions to the field of lactation by awarding her the designation FILCA (Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association). In this episode we get an insight into Nancy’s best tips andtricks on breastfeeding positions, explore the wide range of normal when it comes to frequency of feeds and discuss pumping as a tool used alongside or instead of breastfeeding. A holistic model of support offered by LLL is discussed andthe listeners are encouraged to reach out to LLLGB if breastfeeding support and information is needed. LLLGB is a charity that offers mother to mother and parentto parent support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding. The charity was founded by seven mothers in 1956 and since then has accumulated a wealth of knowledge that is now supported by the latest scientific evidence and research.   Episode Notes: For breastfeeding support and information please visit: www.laleche.org.uk [http://www.laleche.org.uk] Resources from Nancy Mohrbacher: Her Magic Number article, which is free and downloadable on her website:  https://nancymohrbacher.com/pages/professional-articles-1 [https://nancymohrbacher.com/pages/professional-articles-1]  38-minute Natural Breastfeeding video in English/Spanish:  https://naturalbreastfeeding.com/ [https://naturalbreastfeeding.com/] Nancy’s YouTube channel:  https://www.youtube.com/nancymohrbacher [https://www.youtube.com/nancymohrbacher] The Study about breastfeeding positions and aspiration in babies with laryngomalacia. Tandem Nursing: Meeting the Needs of a Baby and an Older Child at the Breast

Sarah and Maria chat with a group of mums who are nursing,or have nursed, both a baby and an older toddler or child. This is often referred to as tandem nursing. Together, we explore the journey – from breastfeeding duringpregnancy to juggling the needs of babies, toddlers, and older children at the breast. We talk about the highs and lows, as well as the benefits and challenges along the way. We hear our guests’ insights on the following themes: * how tandem nursing began and evolved over time * how it felt to nurse two or more children and how they coped with the realities of it * what impact it had on their family – and, looking back, what they had gained from the experience. A holistic model of support offered by LLL is discussed and the listeners are encouraged to reach out to LLLGB if breastfeeding support and information is needed. LLLGB is a charity that offers mother to mother and parent to parent support for breastfeeding and chestfeeding.
