Travel Advice Amid Extreme Temperatures In Europe

Irish holidaymakers heading to Europe are being urged to take extra care as a severe heatwave grips large parts of the continent.   Temperatures have soared above 40 degrees in some popular destinations, including Spain, France, Italy and Portugal, prompting health warnings, travel disruptions and emergency measures.   The Irish Travel Agents Association is advising travellers to stay hydrated, avoid the hottest parts of the day and keep up to date with local weather alerts.  To discuss the situation and offer some practical advice for anyone travelling abroad this summer, Alan Morrissey was joined by Ennis-based Travel Counsellor, Gearóid Mannion. Tour De Munster Gears Up For 2026 Charity Cycle

More than 100 cyclists will take on a gruelling 600-kilometre journey across Munster this August as part of the 26th annual Tour de Munster charity cycle.   The event, which has raised over €5.5 million since it began, supports the vital work of Down Syndrome Ireland and helps fund services for individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout the province.   As preparations continue for this year's four-day challenge, we're taking a closer look at what the fundraiser means for those who benefit from it.   Joining Alan Morrissey earlier was Sean Mc Killen, Committee Member with Down Syndrome Ireland's Clare Branch. Council Work Celebrated Nationwide

Today marks Your Council Day 2026, a national campaign highlighting the vital role local authorities play in supporting communities and delivering services that people rely on every day.   Here in Clare, the County Council employs more than 1,000 staff and provides over 1,000 services, many of which happen behind the scenes but have a real impact on daily life.   To give us an insight into some of that work, Alan Morrissey was joined by three members of Clare County Council staff: Communications Officer Claire Gallagher, Age Friendly Development Officer Shanelle Waring, and Tourism, Festivals and Events Graduate and Clare Fire Service Firefighter Daragh Ryan.   They told him about their roles and the part they play in supporting communities across the county. Threshold Annual Report Reveals How Many Clare Homes Were Assisted

A leading housing charity prevented almost 100 Clare households from entering homelessness last year, according to its latest annual report.   Threshold says Clare was one of just six counties nationwide where it assisted more households with remaining in their homes.   To discuss the figures and the housing challenges facing renters in the county, Alan Morrissey spoke earlier with Threshold CEO, John Mark McCafferty. No Non-Compliances For UHL In Latest HIQA Report

University Hospital Limerick has been found at least partially compliant in all healthcare standards following an inspection by the Health Watchdog. HIQA made a pre-announced visit to the MidWest Region's main hospital on the 18th and 19th of November last year. Although the report noted marked improvements in the hospital's operations, management told inspectors the hospital was regularly working at 120% capacity. Friends of Ennis Hospital Chairperson Angela Coll says it's clear more beds and resources are needed in the region.
