Is everybody responsible for their own success or does luck play a part in it? Rein: “I think success is more like an expectation. You project something to the future. Very rarely people want to consider themselves successful at the moment.” In this episode Rein also gives practical advice on how to use belief to make your dreams into reality.
Do what brings you joy! But if work gets difficult, should I escape and do something easier to find joy? But if there is no hardship, it's very difficult to have joy. It's also not beneficial to only focus on the things that you like. The question is rather what's the good proportions? If 95% of my time is spent on things that are heavy, draining, and don't give me an uplifting feeling, then this is too much. But if it's 5%, you don't achieve anything extraordinary, because extraordinary stuff requires some effort and effort is always taking energy.
Fear is one of the most common emotions that affect behaviour - it stops people from saying and doing what they want. There are two types of fear - fear that keeps me from getting killed. This is an instinct that keeps you from physical harm. For example, stepping in front of a moving car. The second type of fear comes from the same place but is an illusion - we are afraid of things that actually cannot harm us. For example public speaking.
Approval seeking is a pattern of thoughts where all the decisions start with looking for what others - people, society - want. I will scan through all the information that is outside of myself and make the decision based on this information. The desired outcome of this pattern is that people will like me. Because when I am liked = I am a good person = I am allowed to feel good about myself also. But this means all the decisions I make are not what I actually want and it is easy to manipulate me.
