Episode 7: The Final Tale

In this bonus episode of the series, the project’s lived experience group, BUDDs, and the research team discuss co-producing the project, 'Sharing the diagnosis of dementia in the post-Covid clinic: patient and practitioner perspectives'. The team discuss the co-produced approach of the project, share their highlights of working together, and give some insight into the benefits and challenges of co-producing research. Joining this episode are BUDD members, Louise, Margaret, Barry, Elaine and Claire, and researchers from the University of Edinburgh, Lindsay Kinnaird (also presenting), Denise Munro, Dr Tom Russ and Dr Rosie Ashworth. Following on from episode five, ‘The Results Tale’, this episode discusses the findings from research which investigated changes to dementia diagnosis and assessment in the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic. The team explore what the results highlight for dementia diagnoses, including the benefits and challenges of using digital technology when diagnosing dementia. Episode 3: The Clinician's Tale

Dr Tom Russ, Dr Lucy Stirland and Dr Catherine Pennington discuss the diagnosis of dementia and the changes to diagnosis during Covid-19 restrictions. Dr Catherine Pennington is a Consultant Neurologist who works in the memory clinic in Edinburgh and in NHS Forth Valley. Catherine is also Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh. Dr Lucy Stirland is an old age psychiatrist in training who works in NHS in Lothian but often moves around Health Boards. At the time of the discussion, Lucy worked in NHS Borders. Lucy is also an epidemiological researcher at the University of Edinburgh. Dr Tom Russ is an old age psychiatrist in Edinburgh and Director of the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre at the University of Edinburgh. Tom is also the Principal Investigator for the research project: ‘Sharing the diagnosis of dementia in the post-Covid clinic: Patient and Practitioner Perspectives’.
