Descripción

Today we start a new series on theology! This week we start with Theology 101, where we tackle questions like, "what is theology?" and "does theology matter?" We also look at classic arguments for the existence of God. If you want to learn more about Evergreen Church you can go to evergreentn.cc [https://evergreentn.cc/]. Theology 101 - Triunity Pt.1

Why do we care what the Bible says? In the first half of our dive into Triunity, we address the roots of biblical skepticism by walking through the logical "chain of trust" that grounds our faith in God alone. From there, we unpack the dual creation narratives of Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 to reveal two beautifully distinct sides of our Creator : God as the Supreme Artist (Bara), who brings forth the cosmos out of absolutely nothing purely for His own divine pleasure , and God as the Master Craftsman (Asah), who meticulously shapes the world with a carpenter's precision and attention to detail. Finally, we tackle the "24-hour creation controversy," exploring how misusing the Bible as a technical science manual creates a fragile foundation for faith, and why understanding the true, God-centered goal of Genesis liberates us from hyper-literalist pitfalls.

Theology 101 - Bibliology

Series: Gospel and Grounds: Theology 101 Hosts: Brandon & Jeremy Show Notes: Why don’t we start with the Bible to prove that God exists? In this episode of Gospel and Grounds, we dive into "Theology Proper"—the specific study of the nature and character of God. We move from the classical arguments for a Creator into the intimate, revealed identity of the One who calls Himself "I AM." We tackle the complex unity of the Shema, the linguistic history behind the name "Jehovah," and a fascinating look at El Shaddai through the lens of the BEMA Podcast—exploring God not just as "Almighty," but as the One who knows when to say "enough." Finally, we navigate the views of Atonement. Using Scot McKnight’s framework from A Community Called Atonement, we discuss why the cross is too big for just one theory. Whether it’s the legal victory of Penal Substitution, the cosmic triumph of Christus Victor, or the healing restoration of Recapitulation, we explore how these metaphors work together to bring us back to God. In this episode, we discuss: * Biblical vs. Systematic Theology: What’s the difference, and why does it matter for your personal study? * The Names of God: From the majesty of Elohim to the covenant-faithfulness of Yahweh. * The "Omnis": Can God do the "logically impossible"? * The Chain of Trust: Why the manuscript evidence for the New Testament makes it the most authenticated text in ancient history. * The Atonement: A deep dive into the various ways the Church has understood the work of Christ on the cross. Key Scripture References: * Romans 1:19-20 (General Revelation) * Deuteronomy 6:4 (The Shema) * Exodus 3:14 (The Name of God) * Colossians 2:15 (Christus Victor) * Romans 3:25-26 (Penal Substitution) Connect with us: Grab your favorite coffee, open your Bible, and join the conversation as we seek to do theology well.
