Rituals, Anchors, and the Freedom of Flowing With Your Day

👉 Grab your copy of the Time Magic Seasonal Planner [https://www.jillwright.ca/planner]! What if the secret to a more productive, energized day had nothing to do with what time you woke up? In this episode, Jill gets real about a shift she's been experiencing in her own life: trading strict time-based scheduling for rhythms, rituals, and anchors that signal transitions throughout the day. Recording through a cold (yes, she still showed up), Jill shares how a simple morning walk has become a game-changing anchor in her day, and why this approach works especially well for entrepreneurs, moms, and neurodivergent brains who don't operate on a traditional 9-to-5 schedule. She also gets candid about the reality of entrepreneurship, including why she's chosen a patchwork income model to protect her joy and avoid burnout, and why she's giving herself full permission to wait until June to tackle her big business projects. This one is a gentle, meandering conversation that might just inspire you to look at your own day differently. Key Takeaways ⏳Rhythms beat rigid schedules. If you don't have a traditional structured day, stop trying to force one. Instead of assigning tasks to specific times, think about the flow of events. What comes after what? That sequence becomes your structure. ⏳ Anchors signal transitions. A ritual doesn't have to be elaborate. A walk, a song, a candle, a cup of coffee before you open your inbox. These small, consistent acts tell your brain: this chapter is ending, a new one is beginning. That signal matters more than the clock. ⏳ Create before you consume. Before diving into emails, client work, or anyone else's agenda, carve out time that belongs to you. Protecting that space at the start of your day changes the quality of everything that follows. ⏳ Imperfect rituals still count. You don't have to do it every single day for it to make a difference. Twice a week beats never. Take the pressure off consistency being all-or-nothing. ⏳ Entrepreneurship can look like a mosaic. There's no rule that says your business has to be your only income source. Mixing consulting, freelance work, or part-time income alongside your business can actually protect your love for what you do. ⏳ White space is where the magic lives. Look at your day and find the pockets where you have some control. Morning, evening, the commute, the transition between work and family time. That's where a small ritual can create a big shift. In this episode of the Energy + Hours, Jill Wright sits down with Amy Marie Hann, creator of Master the Mundane, to talk about the realities of managing life, home, routines, motherhood, and mental load as women with ADHD. Amy shares her experience of realizing her ADHD didn’t magically disappear outside of school and work, and how years of masking, burnout, and trying to force neurotypical systems eventually pushed her to create more supportive ways of living. Together, Jill and Amy unpack why so many moms with ADHD struggle with consistency, household management, overwhelm, shame, and unrealistic expectations, especially in seasons of motherhood where the demands never stop. This conversation is practical, validating, and deeply relatable for anyone trying to manage time, energy, routines, and family life with a neurodivergent brain. In this episode, Jill and Amy talk about: * Why becoming a stay-at-home mom can actually intensify ADHD struggles * The hidden mental load carried by moms with ADHD * Why urgency becomes a coping mechanism for ADHD brains * The difference between neurotypical productivity advice and ADHD-friendly systems * Masking, burnout, and the pressure to “keep up” * How shame keeps many women stuck in cycles of overwhelm * Building routines that work with your brain instead of against it * Why small, sustainable changes work better than trying to overhaul your life overnight * ADHD, perimenopause, motherhood, and overstimulation * The importance of community and support for neurodivergent moms * Creating systems for home and family management that are realistic and flexible Amy also shares insights from her Master the Mundane community, her course on mastering mornings and evenings, and her approach to helping ADHD moms create more ease in everyday life without perfectionism or guilt.  About the Guest Amy is the creator of Master the Mundane, a unique online course + community that empowers moms with ADHD to manage their home and family in a way that works for their brain.  Amy was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 5 and her three kids, husband, dad, and sister are also ADHD. In this episode of Energy + Hours, Jill sits down with Laura Vanderkam to talk about her new book Big Time [https://lauravanderkam.com/books/big-time/] and the idea that time is far more abundant than we’ve been taught to believe. This conversation shifts the focus away from control and toward agency. Time is not something working against you. It is something you are actively shaping, whether you realize it or not. They explore what it looks like to move from feeling behind and overwhelmed to building a life that feels spacious, intentional, and aligned. Not by doing more, but by seeing your time differently and using it with more clarity. What You’ll Learn * Why the idea that “there’s never enough time” keeps people stuck * How to shift into a time abundance mindset in real life * Practical ways to audit your schedule and find hidden discretionary time * How weekly planning reduces mental load and decision fatigue * A simple structure for balancing career, relationships, and self * How to stop wishing time away and start experiencing it more fully * What “golden hours” are and how to actually use them * Why small, intentional planning creates more freedom than rigid systems Key Takeaways This episode brings time management back to what it was always meant to be: a tool. Not a rigid system. Not a source of pressure. A way to create a life that actually feels good to live. Time is big enough to hold long-term growth, change, and meaningful work. You have more agency than you think over your daily experience of time, and this conversation will help you start using it. Stop Doing It All and Ask for Help

[https://www.jillwright.ca/momentum-membership] You're carrying the weight alone because somewhere you learned that asking is selfish or weak. It's not. It's the most efficient way to reclaim your time and energy. I learned this lesson fresh watching my six-year-old daughter knock on neighbours' doors selling Girl Guide cookies. There was no apology in her ask, no concern about burdening people, no second-guessing. She showed up, stated what she needed, and moved on. Adults have forgotten how to do this, especially women. We're tangled up in people-pleasing, perfectionism, and the constant hum of cultural messaging that tells us we need to handle everything ourselves. The thing is, asking for what you want and need is one of the fastest ways to shift your energy. Not just in a day, but across your entire life. Time back, less resentment, better boundaries, actual rest. In this episode, we get into: * Why people-pleasing and perfectionism keep you from asking (and how your neurodiversity might actually be your superpower here) * The exact 3-step framework to make the ask: identify what you want, figure out what you need to get there, and ask for the help * How to handle rejection without it derailing the whole thing (spoiler: even a "no" is better than not asking) * The art of showing up and seeing what happens when you let people respond authentically * Why your discomfort with asking is just being out of practice, and how to build the habit starting small * Real-life examples of what asking sounds like so it doesn't feel awkward or sleazy Resources Take the Time Magic Quiz: https://jillwright.ca/quiz [https://jillwright.ca/quiz] Download the Free ADHD Time Tips: https://jillwright.ca/adhd-tips [https://jillwright.ca/adhd-tips] Join the Momentum Membership: Weekly planning, accountability, and co-working for nonlinear entrepreneurs https://www.jillwright.ca/mometum-membership [https://www.jillwright.ca/mometum-membership] Get the Time Magic™ Planner: A 90-day seasonal planner designed for ADHD and intuitive brains https://www.jillwright.ca/planner [https://www.jillwright.ca/planner] About Jill Wright Jill Wright is a Time Management Expert, author, and award-winning speaker who helps ambitious women, moms, and entrepreneurs manage time and energy in a way that feels aligned, flexible, and sustainable. This conversation looks at what’s actually happening behind that disconnect. When things are working on paper but not in your day-to-day, it’s usually not a time problem. It’s a leadership gap that no one taught you how to close. Lauren and I talk about the shift from doing everything yourself to actually leading your business. The part where delegation feels messy, systems don’t hold, and you’re still carrying more than you should even with support in place. In this episode, we get into: • why success can still feel heavy and unsustainable • what’s really happening when delegation isn’t working • the difference between productivity and leadership in business • how to step into the CEO role without overcomplicating it • the hidden expectations you’re not communicating to your team • where operations and time management actually overlap About Lauren Glynn Lauren Glynn is a leadership and operations coach who works with business owners stepping into the CEO role.
