Recap: Fever Pummel Sparks 111-87 for Feel-Good Win Before Weeklong Break

The Indiana Fever rolled past the LA Sparks 111-87 on Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, leading by as many as 35 points in one of their most complete wins of the season. Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum and Cameron Brink were all sidelined, but Indiana took care of business in the featured CBS primetime game. The Fever had 11 of 12 players score, shot 55% from the field, 53% from 3-point range and 82% at the free-throw line. Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 26 points, and Indiana now heads into a weeklong break before beginning a road trip July 5 in Las Vegas. The Indiana Fever suffered a 111-109 loss on Wednesday to the Phoenix Mercury, their second meeting in three games. Kelsey Mitchell scored a game-high 30 points before fouling out with 22 seconds left. But this game will be remembered for Caitlin Clark exiting the game with a back injury in the third quarter, not returning, and then head coach Stephanie White having her back postgame. Enough is enough. "Absolutely unacceptable!" White said. "We spent all offseason looking at officiating. All offseason. And I still say the one thing that we keep asking for is consistency. (Caitlin Clark) is not called the same way everybody else is called." Alyssa Thomas was seen putting her knee to Clark's groin, then fist to throat in the first half; Valeriane Ayayi had a reckless close-out on a 3-point attempt by Clark that was not called either. At least on that one, they went to the monitor, but did not upgrade the foul. Now... how will the league respond? Will they? Clark is the golden goose, the face of the league, and more. The Fever are disgusted with how she has been treated in many ways, but especially with officiating. Player health is everything and this directly impacts her availability. Recap: Fever Recover From Awful Start, Hold Off Mercury in Physical Win

The Indiana Fever overcame a rough start and a physical, tension-filled fourth quarter to beat the Phoenix Mercury 86-77 in their first matchup of the season. After being outscored 19-6 in the first quarter, going 2 for 18 from the field, Indiana responded with a strong second quarter, then took control with a 30-11 third behind Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and a big lift from Monique Billings. Clark finished with a game-high 24 points and nine assists, Billings recorded her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Mitchell helped lead the Fever’s surge after the slow start. The night also featured six technical fouls, a bleeding lip for Mitchell, boos for DeWanna Bonner, and plenty of tension between two teams that will do it all over again Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Recap: Indiana Fever Collapse After Hot Start, Fall 113-96 to Dream

The Indiana Fever opened with their best first quarter of the season, scoring 37 points behind Caitlin Clark’s fast start, then got a second-period lift from Kelsey Mitchell’s shot-making. But after leading by as many as 11, the game flipped quickly as Atlanta took control with second-chance opportunities (22 points to 13), transition points (20 to 2) and a decisive third-quarter run. The Dream outscored Indiana 28-15 in the third quarter and never looked back, handing the Fever a 113-96 loss at State Farm Arena. Atlanta’s 113 points set a franchise record, while the Fever dropped to 9-7 after back-to-back losses to the Dream. Recap: Fever’s Win Streak Ends as Dream Score 108, Dominate the Paint

The Fever’s four-game win streak ended Thursday night in a high-scoring loss to the Atlanta Dream, with defense again the biggest concern. Indiana has now allowed 100-plus points in four of its six losses, and Atlanta dominated inside with a season-high 60 points in the paint.
