Episode 10: Don't You Forget About Us│Legally Analysing The Breakfast Club

In our Season 1 Finale episode, Legally Bland deviates  from it's typical formula as Alannah and Holly watch The Breakfast Club and all the possible crimes that ensue in this classic 80's flick.   Featuring quasi-legal analysis, the typical pondering of constitutional rights and excitement over anachronistic legislation. Commentary arises on the most relatable character in the film, a possible genesis of the movie's moniker and what constituted an 'astounding flex' in the eighties! Episode 9: Human Rights and Human Wrongs │Why human rights law matters

In this episode Alannah and Holly discuss human rights focusing on constitutional unenumerated rights. Alannah gives a brief summary, charts the recognition of the right to privacy and plays quiz-master in the inaugural round of "If these are the facts- what was the outcome?".  Holly details the conceptual development of human rights, considers the rights of unmarried fathers and the possible constitutional discrimination of de facto families.   There is the expected musings on a possible hierarchy of human rights, the 'high- profile' human rights and the absurdly detailed facts presented in judgements. Episode 8: Rise and Smite │Why contract law matters

In this episode Alannah and Holly discuss contract law, namely the foundational principles on formation of contract!  Holly gives a brief insight into the intersection of quackery and the law, the particularities of unilateral contracts and undertaking an inconvenience as valid contract formation.   Alannah  outlines the rampant commercialism of the 1990s, why advertisements do not constitute offers of sale and invitations to treat. Typical conversation ensues about poisoning as medical treatment, jet planes, sniffing petrol and the magniloquence of "get stuff". Alannah gives a brief background of Tort law before examining the tort of negligence and the duty of care to not sell defectively manufactured coffee.  Holly considers the tort of defamation, namely disproportionate jury awards and recent legislative reforms.  This episode has the normal musings including appropriate coffee temperature, the vital nature of cup holders in cars and the possibility of hidden conspiracy theories in Supreme Court judgments.  You can find our full list of sources here: https://www.legallyblandpodcast.com/2020/03/episode-7-duty-of-we-dont-really-care.html Season 1 Episode 7 of our Irish law student podcast!

Episode 6: Unlawfully Killeth│Criminal Law is confusing, but matters

In this episode Holly and Alannah discuss criminal law.  Holly expounds the key (and complex!) criminal elements of Actus Reus and Mens Rea. Alannah charts the evolution of the definition of murder and considers the components necessary for a murder (in legal terms, of course).  Predictable extraneous conversation involves the requisite confidence to bluff about the existence of legislation, the acceptability of killing 'unreasonable people' and the possibility of murdering ghosts.  You can find our full list of sources here: https://www.legallyblandpodcast.com/2020/03/episode-6-unlawfully-killeth.html Season 1 Episode 6 of our Irish law student podcast!
